Welcome to CP English 9          "excellence is an attitude"

The school year 2019-2020

Mr. A.Rodriguez

To create a balance inside the classroom, teachers, students, and parents must stay on top of policies and procedures.

School Policies

In order to function effectively, schools must have clear policies and procedures that guide day-to-day processes. These policies cover everything from attendance, to student discipline, to emergency procedures.

To become knowledgeable of all the school policies, please read the Memorial High School Handbook located online on the main website. It is also given to every student. I will review the key school policies and classroom procedures with the class on the first day of school.

Dress Code

Dress code will be enforced. Under the Memorial High School Handbook, "Schools uniforms must be worn at all times when the student is in the building or on school grounds...any student in violation of our policy should be sent to the appropriate administrative office immediately"(35).

With that said, please be in uniform i.e school shirt, black or khaki pants, and ID around your neck. NO JEANS

Tardy/Cuts

Under the Memorial High School Handbook, "If a student is late to class, the Class Teacher may assign detention in the auditorium on the same day at 2:25 pm"(58).

Unless the student provides a note from a teacher or administrator as to why he or she is late, the student will be given detention if late for homeroom or class.

Cutting is not tolerated in Memorial High School.

Cutting policy is as followed:

1st Cut- detention + parent notification

2nd Cut- detention + parent conference

3rd Cut - Saturday detention + parent conference

4th Cut- Extended Saturday detention + parent conference

5th Cut- Out-of School Suspenion + parent conference + loss of credit/30 day probation

6th Cut - Dropped from class

Plagiarism

"Plagiarism is presenting someone else's words, ideas, or data as your own work"(74). I DO NOT tolerate plagiarism. As young adults, you are responsible for your own work. Suspicion of plagiarism will result in:

Strike 1: Student-teacher conference after class

Strike 2: Conference + a grade of zero

Strike 3: Conference + a grade of zero + a scheduled parent-teacher conference

Classroom Policies/Procedures

Assignments

All assignments are due on the assigned due date. If the assignment is not handed in on that date, (depending on the assignment) the student will be given a chance to hand it in late with deducted points. For each day it is late, 10 points are off per day. After 3 days, I will not accept late work. Because I run a site called Edmodo, students have access to see their homework online and to talk to me via messaging if there are any problems. Therefore, there are no excuses.*

Missing assignments will be given a grade of a zero.

*Severe cases will be excused, a parent-teacher conference will be provided to figure out a plan of action.

Missing Class Work

Every day, I will have a written-up summary of what we did and discussed in class that day. This information will be located in the classroom binder, so if a student is absent, he or she will have to opportunity to retrieve whatever notes he or she has missed. The binder will be given only to students who were absent. Students cannot copy notes during class time. Students can meet with me during their lunchtime. It is their responsibility to ask me for the binder.

Classroom Rules/Policies

A class is like a family!  We value each other and live by the "golden rule" - "do unto others as you would have them do to you."  Therefore, we have classroom standards and rules.

7.)     Remember that the bell does not dismiss you. I do. Walk over to the trash can to throw things away.

Check Google Classroom often. I will regularly post announcements, due dates, copies of handouts (in case you lose yours or are absent for several days) and other important information. Please ask to join your group. When signing in make sure that you use your proper name as it appears on the classroom roster.

*The school has its own policies on vulgarity and tardiness. A detention will be given for the FIRST OFFENCE
