 READING

Accountability:

Students are expected to read for a MINIMUM of 20 -30 minutes daily. You may read chapter books, picture books, periodicals, the sports page, etc... make it enjoyable!  Independent reading, reading with a family member, and reading along to a book on CD, app or website are acceptable. Your reading time should be uninterrupted and meaningful.  Starting in October, or so, there will be weekly reading assignments. The focus of that assignment will directly relate to the reading skills and strategies we are currently learning.  Students will respond by either answering questions, or write a reading response of some sort. This encourages students to also share and discuss what they read with family, friends, and teachers to help improve comprehension. "Reading is Thinking"...and  writing about their reading helps further build and expand our thinking.  No written response is considered to be incorrect or invalid, AS LONG AS you can justify or support it with evidence from the text and/or your personal knowledge and experiences. The assignement will be assigned on Monday, and turned in every Friday.
