Welcome to Our Class!
In our classroom, students experience learning and personal growth in an environment that celebrates our individual strengths as well as our learning community. Through my relationship with my students, I hope to instill a love of learning that will last a lifetime.
Approximately one quarter to one half of our class time each week is devoted to developing proficiency in advanced math operational and problem solving skills. Our curriculum is aligned with the regular math classes, but places an emphasis on mastering grade-level skills with opportunities for acceleration within each unit.
The students spend the remaining class time involved in research, interpretive reading, writing, and problem-solving. We place emphasis on reading analytically and synthesizing text. Our investigation activities are followed with direct instruction on effective written and oral communication, allowing the students opportunities to create meaningful products. The students work both individually and within cooperative groups on these projects.
