It is the purpose of the English 12 STEAM Honors class that students will select to fulfill their fourth year of a required English class. This class is devoted to an extensive, year-long approach to studying the dramatic works of English & American playwrights, poets, and novelists. This class also offers a major inclusion of college-level essay writing. With each work read together in class, there are co-coordinated, creative projects and curriculum-based writing assignments. The essay for the college application is stressed, as well. Since plays were intended to be viewed on the stage, rather than read, the viewing component of the class is viable and important. The teacher makes every attempt to have the class read plays that the class may see as well. Students will also read articles and novels that implement the themes of science and technology. The students will create projects and presentations based on the criteria covered in the curriculum.
Some short stories/novels we will be reading this year are:
-Hamlet by William Shakespeare
-The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
-The Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
-Maus by Art Spiegelman
-Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer & STEAM articles
