Tomorrow’s Teachers is an innovative course designed to attract talented young people who possess exemplary interpersonal and leadership skills to consider a career in teaching. The program seeks to provide high school students insight into the nature of teaching, the problems of schooling, and the critical issues affecting the quality of education in America's schools. As such, the program also provides inspires these aspiring future teachers to also become community leaders with insights about teachers and schools that will enable them to be advocates of education.
Tomorrow's Teachers I will focus on three central themes: Experiencing the learner, Experiencing the Profession, and Experiencing the Classroom. We will study the learning process and explore educational psychologists like Piaget, Maslow, and Kohlberg. The students will trace the history of public education in New Jersey and the role that our government officials play in our public schools,as well as learning about the latest issues and developments in the educational world.
Students in this program will perfom project based activities in class, attend field trips to college campuses, volunteer in district as tutors, and improve on becoming better students through bonding with their classmates and by standinng up to any challenges they face. Students will learn various aspects of their field of education and psychology and experience what it is like to be a teacher.
