9/4/23: Introductions, Course syllabus, classroom community building and supplies distributed.

9/11/22: Reading Diagnostic, Journal Entries, Anticipation Guide and opening pre-reading activities for Of Mice and Men  and begin reading.

9/18/22: Begin daily edits, Conitnue with Of Mice and Men: reading, summaries and analysis,  Quiz on OMAM.

General Information

Please refer to this website or the board, for office hours or just make an appointment to see me when you need anything. If you are absent please see me for missed work.  I'm always available for extra help, please see me if necessary. Individual Zoom meetings are certainly an option for us. 

 

Reminders:

Please come to class prepared everyday. In addition to any assigned written homework, you should be studying for assessments on a regular basis. Although an assignment may not be checked, it doesn't mean you have no work to review. Please regularly check oncourse's homework page, thanks. 

 

Homework:

Oncourse and/or Google Classroom will list homework, but please check our classroom board, listen to verbal announcements and check Google Classroom because plans do change during the week sometimes.  At the start of each class students are told and reminded of all homework assignments and assessment dates. Also, study any vocabulary and/or study guides when appropriate. 

 

Goals:

1. We will become well read in works of Literature and Nonfiction.

2. We will work towards having a stronger grasp on Literary Elements.

3. We will become more accurate and knowledgeable in areas of grammar.

4. We will begin improving our vocabulary while finding our own writing style.
5. We will improve in all aspects of our conversational skills, using our Touchstones program and class discussions.

6. We will create a sense of community.

 

Grading Criteria: Oncourse - Point System

 

Warm Ups: (When offered) 

 

Classwork: Reading, class discussions, writing, attention to and time on task and various activities (Any lessons completed in class :)

 

Assessments: all quizzes and/or test results, projects and essays 

 
Homework: various written assignments, reviewing classwork, journal entries, literary terms and studying for assessments etc.

Class Requirements/Procedures: 

Please be on time, pay attention and maximize your potential. You are expected to behave appropriately in class. Points will be deducted for inappropriate behavior. Cell phones, iPads and headphones are to be off and away unless we are using them for instruction. I won't waste class time addressing the unauthorized usage of technological devices. You were told the procedures the first week of class. We will have plenty of class lessons involving the usage of iPads, and that will be awesome. In the end, we will adhere to the guidelines within your HTHS student handbook and/or any contracts linked to the iPads.

 

Noncompliance, sleeping behavior, or any other gross misconduct will result in a zero grade for the day, a parental contact and notifying Mr. Allen.  In order to create a sense of community, we must work together in creating the most positive and fun environment possible.
