SWBAT:

 

  • Students can explain the parts and purposes of the nervous system.
  • Students can describe how the parts of the nervous system communicate with the rest of the body.
  • Students can list the three types of neurons and an example of each neurons function.

DAY 1:

 Label the parts of the brain:  Label the Brain Anatomy Diagram.docx .  I made the document editable; therefore, you should be able to just fill it in and e-mail it to me!

 

DAY 2: Watch the following video - https://www.pbs.org/video/science-trek-nervous-system/

The video asks 30 questions about the Nervous System.  Pick 10 out of the 30 questions today and 10 tomorrow.  Paraphrase the answers to those questions.  E-mail the work to me!

 

DAY 3:  Complete the video assignment from yesterday!  Complete the other 10 and e-mail me the answers!

 

DAY 4:  I want you to complete what I have for DAY 3 of CP BIO!!  I think it's important and you guys are probably going to really understand it!!  I will move everything back a day!!

DAY 5 (Monday): Complete the Nervous System Webquest: Ok... not working great.  I'd change the assignment, but 2 out of 4 of you already did it.  Just look up anything that a website doesn't work for.  SORRY!  I checked the links before I left school and they worked.    1 Webquest Nervous System (1).pdf . This is an extensive webquest that will take 2 days to complete.

DAY 13 & 14 (THURSDAY, 4/2 & Friday 4/3):

Heart Worksheet:  Heart Worksheet 1.rtf  Every time it mentions a #, label it on the diagram.  For one part, it asks you to label the flow of blood through the heart.  Some of you seem to be able to write on your computers and this will work out fine.  For anyone who can't:  Maybe you can print it out and do it by hand.  If not, you will have to try to explain in your own words the movement of blood.  Number the steps.  Example:  It starts __________ --> ______________ --> ______________, etc

DAYS 20-24 (4/21 - 4/23):  PROJECT!!  WRITE YOUR 3-PAGE PAPER!! 

 

-SWBAT identify parts that comprise a scientific research paper
-SWBAT understand some different ways scientists develop ideas for their research
-SWBAT understand the advantages of conducting a literature search
-SWBAT understand the process of writing a research paper
-SWBAT understand what to include/exclude in the various sections of a research paper
(introduction, method, results, discussion, references)
-SWBAT see an example of an actual completed research paper

 

Proposals were due 3/11.  E-mail me for your graded proposal if you have not received it yet.  You want to make sure that you know everything that you did wrong on the proposal so that you can fix the mistakes for the project.  You also need to SAVE THE PROPOSAL that is graded!  It will need to be turned in with your final project.  You can't just print another one; it has to be the proposal I graded.

 

As you know, the paper is 3 pages.  Some of you may choose to use paragraphs 1 & 3 from the proposal in your final paper, but please make sure that you DO NOT include paragraphs 2 & 4 in the paper.  They were strictly for the proposal.  If you go to my home page, you will see a tab that says "SCIENCE PROJECT."  Everything that you need is on there.  You will find:  The proposal instructions and formatting, a sample proposal, the 3-page paper instructions (with formatting, rubric, in-text citation help & the MLA Format Agreement) and a sample paper with a proper Works Cited.  4 sources minimum are required for the final paper.

 

Monday, 4/27 WORK:  Watch the Magic School Bus Video about Digestion and answer the questions.  Instead of DAY # in the subject line of the email you send me, we will now just use the DATE!!

Tuesday, 4/28 WORK:  This is the last BIG unit of the year!  The Nervous System and the Cardiovascular/Circulatory System units are just overviews.  I am going to go through Digestion like we would in class.  I am posting the notes here and then I will post videos to teach the notes.  Your work each day will be to send me the completed notes for the part that was covered in the video for that day.  When we complete the notes, we will move on to other material relating to Digestion.

MONDAY - WEDNESDAY, 5/18-5/20 WORK:

In lieu of presentations for the final project, I would like you to still do the powerpoint part of the project.  The criteria is under "Presentation" on the main Project document on my website; however, I will attach the main points here:

 

A) Presentation must depict and describe the main topic of the paper

 

 

B) Presentation must include at least three of the supporting points of the paper

 

C) Presentation must include your reasoning for your choice of topic (Hint: Make a slide and title it “Why I Chose This Topic.” That helps students to not forget it.)

 

D) Presentation must include what effects the topic poses on society (“Why is this important?” Again: Hint = make a slide and title it “Why is this topic important?”)

 

E) Must have at least one supporting picture/graph (YOU SHOULD HAVE A LOT OF PICTURES, IF POSSIBLE)

 

F) DO NOT fill the slides with words. 2-3 bullets, about 5-7 words each MAXIMUM per slide. I’m not strict about #s of bullets/words, but this is a general guideline to not be too wordy!

 

G) No minimum # of slides

 

TUESDAY, 5/26 WORK:

MAKE-UP WORK!!  If you haven't sent your presentation, please do so ASAP.  I am working on a review assignment for the year that dabbles a little in everything we've covered!  That will be assigned tomorrow!  I hope you had an amazing weekend!! 

 

WEDNESDAY, 5/27 WORK:

This is due whenever you can get it to me within about a week!  If it asks to label a diagram, you CAN use a google pic, but I would GREATLY prefer it if you label it yourselves.  The document should be fully editable, so you should be able to add text boxes if you can't write on your computer.  You could also add pics to the document and print it out to label it.  Then you can send me GOOD pics of the finished product.  You guys are smart and can figure something out!  This is your LAST ASSIGNMENT!
