Day 1

Powerpoint:  Unit 7 Structure and FunctionCells.pptx

Guided Notes:  UNIT 7 - PHS GUIDED NOTES.docx

Assignment:  Fill in the Guided Notes from the master powerpoint.  E-mail me the completed Guided Notes.

DAY 2

Complete the following quiz that will reinforce what you learned in the Guided Notes:  Cell-Structure-and-Function-14-question-easy.doc .  E-mail me the completed Quiz.  You can just e-mail me the answers if you can't edit the document.

DAY 3

https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/world/corona-simulator/

I'm doing something different!  So, for DAY 3, please read/watch this and paraphrase what you read in 1-2 paragraphs!! EXPLAIN AT LEAST 3 OF THE SIMULATIONS AND WHY THEY HAPPEN!! It needs to be interpreted IN YOUR OWN WORDS!

Some questions to answer:

What is the best method of containment based on the simulations and why?

Which forms of containment are not as successful and why?

Send me an email with your response!!

DAY 4 (FRIDAY):  Cell Labeling Practice and Matching:  Cell-Labeling-Practice-BR.docx

The document isn't showing up great.  Just do the assignment starting about halfway down where it says "Type of Cell."  It looks fine from that point on.  Again, if you can't edit the document, you can just send me the answers.  Each section has numbers or letters associated with each answer.

DAYS 5 & 6 (MONDAY AND TUESDAY)

Go to www.flocabulary.com and use the class code TCJ85K (BRODER students) or VMH3NK (NEFF students)

You will need to set up an account.  I am giving you 2 days to complete the assignments since there are a few.  None of it takes very long though!  I need the results by Day 7 for full credit.  This is my 1st time using it, so let me know if there are issues and I will try to correct them.  When you complete the assignments, it will send me your answers/grade.  Please also send me an email when you have completed the assignment so that I don't have to keep checking it to see if you're done!

DAYS 7 & 8 (WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY, 3/25 & 3/26)

 Eukaryotic+Cell_+Organelles+pg.jpg

I am giving you 2 days since these might take a bit to do!!  For each of the organelles in the attached picture, come up with an analogy for each organelle!  Each analogy must follow the following format (you can not use my examples):

1. the NUCLEUS is like THE ADMINISTRATION OF A SCHOOL because the NUCLEUS CONTROLS WHAT GOES ON IN THE CELL just like the ADMINISTRATION CONTROLS WHAT GOES ON AT A SCHOOL

Another example:  the MITOCHONDRIA is like the FANS AT A SPORTING EVENT because the MITOCHONDRIA GIVES THE CELL ENERGY just like the FANS AT A SPORTING EVENT GIVE THE PLAYERS ENERGY

E-mail me the answers!

DAYS 9 & 10 (FRIDAY & MONDAY, 3/27 & 3/30)

CELL WEBQUEST:

The document is editable.  Complete it and e-mail it to me.  If you complete it by hand, please take pics of your work and e-mail it to me.

GO TO THE "SCIENCE PROJECT" TAB ON THE LEFT ON THE HOME SCREEN!  The links should be working now!

WRITE THE PROJECT PROPOSAL &/or complete make-up work!!!

ASSIGNMENT:  PROJECT PROPOSAL!  If you have already turned in your proposal, these days are FREE FOR YOU!  I NEED these proposals!!  If you have not turned one in yet, they need to be in By WEDNESDAY 4/22 for any credit.  They were originally due on 3/13.  Instead of going to this CP BIO link, go to the link on my homepage that says SCIENCE PROJECT.  All of the information that you would need to write your proposal is there, including a sample proposal and Works Cited page.  Make sure that yours looks exactly like that one (different topic, of course) before turning it in.   All of you have wifi and you can do it on your phones through office 365 if you really need to.  There is no reason why you can't submit a proper MLA typed proposal!  You can send me partially-done proposals to see if you are doing the Works Cited and in-text citations, etc correctly.  If you are really struggling, we can set up a ZOOM meeting on our computers and I can try to help you 1-on-1!

IF YOU ARE DONE THE PROPOSAL, COMPLETE ANY ASSIGNMENTS FROM MP3 or MP4 that you have not done!!

THURSDAY & FRIDAY, 4/30 & 5/1:  DIFFUSION AND OSMOSIS CASE STUDIES:  THESE MUST BE ANSWERED IN YOUR OWN WORDS AND THE ANSWERS MUST BE THOROUGH AND DEMONSTRATE THAT YOU UNDERSTAND OSMOSIS!!  Also, students have found answers to these online in the past and some of the answers HAVE BEEN WRONG!  I will know if you do that with this assignment!  Please do your own work in your OWN words!!

Case Study Part & 2: osmosis case study parts 1 & 2 PDF.pdf

For Part 2 of the case studies (HELP):  In video #2 of the powerpoint (TUESDAY), I described how blood is separated from the water in your body.  It has a very specific amount of salt in it and that amount is different from the rest of your body.  Unlike other cells, blood cells can't control how much water they take in and, therefore, could pop if they take in too much water!!  When you get an IV in a hospital, they have to give you water with the exact % salt as your blood already has or it could result in a disaster!

Monday, 5/4:  MAKE-UP WORK!!  Finish any work that you have missed!  I NEED THE PROPOSALS ASAP IF YOU HAVEN'T SUBMITTED THEM.  If I asked you to fix your proposal and resubmit, please get them to me so that I can put a grade in.

WEDNESDAY - FRIDAY, 5/20-5/22PROJECT!!  WRITE YOUR 3-PAGE PAPER!!

Proposals were due 3/13 by 10 PM.  Then, you got ANOTHER WEEK for the proposal when I moved it to the 4th MP.  When you turn in your proposal, I let you know what you needed to fix when you write the final paper.  If there were a lot of things to fix, I may have had students fix the mistakes and resubmit the proposal before I graded it.  If there are only a few minor issues, I put the grade in and let you know via email what to fix.  You want to make sure that you know everything that you did wrong on the proposal so that you can fix the mistakes for the project!!!!!  Don't lose the proposal either; I will ask you to send it in with the 3-page paper!

As you know, the paper is 3 pages.  Some of you may choose to use paragraphs 1 & 3 from the proposal in your final paper, but please make sure that you DO NOT include paragraphs 2 & 4 in the paper.  They were strictly for the proposal.  If you go to my home page, you will see a tab that says "SCIENCE PROJECT."  Everything that you need is on there.  You will find:  The proposal instructions and formatting, a sample proposal, the 3-page paper instructions (with formatting, rubric, in-text citation help & the MLA Format Agreement) and a sample paper with a proper Works Cited.  4 sources minimum are required for the final paper.

The video I made for writing the proposal will also help with Works Cited and in-text citations in the paper.  You just won't be using paragraphs 2 & 4 from the proposal in the paper.  Many students don't use any of the proposal in the final paper, so it's up to you!  PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THERE IS NO 1st PERSON IN RESEARCH PAPERS!

MONDAY, 6/1 WORK!

THE REST OF YOUR DAYS SHOULD BE SPENT ON MAKE-UP WORK AT THIS TIME!!  You do not need to let me know if you have completed the Actively Learns or the Edpuzzles - I can see those grades on the website.  I DO need to know if you complete any Flocabulary assignments - The website does NOT let me know when someone has completed one, so I will go in manually to check it if you let me know it's done!!  I have put in grades of 50% for all missing assignments at this point.  As always,if you need help with anything, we can set up a Zoom Meeting to go over anything you want!!  I am so proud of the work that many of you have done!  For those of you that are done, have a great summer and I will see you in the fall!
