Hello, my name is Shane Kovalesky and I am the chemistry teacher at Paulsboro High School.  I teach 3 different levels of high school chemistry, general chemistry, college prep chemistry and honors chemistry.  Before I get into what all the students will be learning, let me tell you about myself.  I currently hold a chemistry degree from Rowan University and have worked as a chemist for both the pharmaceutical and chemical industries.  I  taylor my lesson around real life experiences in which I feel that the student will encounter later in the college setting.
Some topics that all students will become familiar with over the next school year will include, dimensional analysis, early atomic theory, nomeclature, the periodic table and its various trends, the mole concept, stoichiometry, electrochemistry, nuclear chemistry, and organic chemistry.  All labs will be taylored to reinforce the concepts learned in the previous chapters.
Chemistry is a challenging subject and most kids come into the class expecting it to be very difficult.  Chemistry does not have to be that way.  The concepts can be a little challenging at first but become simple after alot of practice, practice and more practice.   I always reinforce previous concepts into the new concept so the material becomes second nature.  I my classroom, learning Chemistry is not impossible, it is impossible not to learn Chemistry. Any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.  My email address is [email protected].
