Introduction to Business
We will begin the semester with some getting to know each other activities and some basic business concepts.
**All homework and classwork assignments will be shared through our Google Classroom, not on my website.**
Current Business Events Articles and Summaries
There will be three Current Event assignments each marking period. They will be assigned on a rotating basis.
Things can change very quickly in the world of business. In order to help the students be aware of these changes, the students will be required to find three current business events articles over the course of the semester. The details are listed below. Some students will be selected to have this be the week that they will be submitting a video current event. It is very important that the directions below are followed in order to receive credit for the assignment.
They MUST be submitted through Google.Classroom. No exceptions!!
In addition, each student will be required to find a business events video of approximately three to five minutes duration that they will share with the class and then explain why they selected it. Again, the students have selected for them the date that they will do a video current event. The link will be due on the shared Google.doc on the date shown.
These two types of current event assignments will count as ten percent of the marking period grade. Not completing the current events will have a negative impact on your marking period grade. Be sure to take full advantage of the positive impact that these current event assignments will have on your grade. Make sure that you complete them and that you are prepared to discuss them in class on the Fridays that they are due. The objective of this assignment is to relate what is happening in the world of business to the different concepts that we have learned in class.
Here are the specifications for the assignment:
1. You must read an article that if it is in the newspaper is at least one-half of a page long that is related to business.
2. It could also be a full page article from a reliable news source from the Internet that prints out to a full page long.
3. Any photos or charts that are in the article do not count towards the length requirements.
4. You must read the article and then create a 1/2 page summary that is in your own words. If the summary is not long enough, then you will lose points on the assignment. It should be in 12 point font. The reason behind this is so that you demonstrate through the summary that you understand the article and why the subject is important.
5. The article summary must be typed in the double-spaced format. You are required to submit the article and summary by using Google.docs. You will be able to submit the assignments earlier in the week if that works better for you. I allow this to help students work on their time management skills.
Remember that these articles and summaries will count as 10 percent of your marking period grade because as we are discussing in class, changes occur rapidly in the world of business and we all need to keep up with them. They will not be accepted late unless you bring it in on the day that you return from being absent.
