The ABC's in Mrs. Foley's Kindergarten
Welcome to kindergarten! This will be an exciting year filled with lots of new adventures, friends and learning.
Our days will be filled with many wonderful experiences and opportunities for social, academic and emotional learning and growing. My main goal in our classroom is to have your child feel safe and cared about. I will encourage your child to be the best person they can be and support them along this exciting journey.
We will learn about letters and sounds through hands-on phonics activities, and will be doing tons of writing too. We will also be learning about numbers and building on important math concepts including sorting, counting, reading and writing numbers, adding and subtracting and number stories. The children are always proud of the work they create and are excited to share their new skills at home. Families can help by reading to and with their child daily, and encouraging them to write and draw. Young children learn as they play, and their daily play is their work. Celebrate their growth daily!
I believe that a good parent teacher relationship is necessary for maximum success. Throughout the year I will communicate with you via notes, phone calls and emails. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. I am looking forward to a wonderful year with you and your child.
Kind regards,
Mrs. Foley
Kindergarten Supplies
WHAT TO BRING TO SCHOOL:
Backpacks: Please have your child bring a BIG enough backpack to easily hold their supplies from me and their lunchboxes. There have been times when students' bags are way too small and students cannot fit their folders, art projects and library books in their bags. Rolling backpacks on wheels are often cumbersome for the kinder kids.
Headphones: Please send in headphones in a large Ziploc bag labeled with your child's name. It's best to avoid earbud headphones for school usage.
One Black Expo Markers: Please have your child bring two black EXPO markers to school. No need to label the marker.
One Small Container of Play-Doh: Please send in one small container of Play Dough to be used for phonics. No need to label the container.
Daily Snack:Your child should bring a water bottle to school daily and a small nut-freesnack to school.
Photos: Please send in two photos of your child. It is best if the picture is ONLY of your child. No siblings or parents. One is for a project and one is for Student of the Week.
Change of Clothes: Kindergarten kids can often have accidents with the bathroom, spill their snack or jump in mud puddles during recess. Feel free to keep a small change of clothes in their backpacks so they can quickly change in our room.
Classroom donations are always welcome in Kindergarten! Below is a list of items that we are always in need of in our room. Of course, donations are voluntary but always appreciated!
Washable Markers (thick or thin)
Glue Sticks
Play-Doh (store bought or homemade)
Big or Small Ziploc bags
Puffs Plus Tissues
Hand soap
Baby Wipes (we use daily for all the little cleaners)
Warm regards,
