2D ART

This studio course is an introduction to 2D. Students will explore the elements and principles of design as it applies to 2 dimensional works of art. They will acquire experience with the use of a variety of art materials. They will learn to create their own original works of art; such as drawings, paintings and mixed media. They  will also learn to appreciate and understand works of art created throughout history and cultural groups, using proper terminology and vocabulary.

 

3D ART

This studio course is an introduction to 3D. Students will explore the elements and principles of design as it applies to 3 dimensional works of art. They will acquire experience with the use of a variety of art materials such as cardboard, clay, wood, plaster and others. They will learn to create their own original works of art such as sculpture and craft objects. They  will also learn to appreciate and understand works of art created throughout history and cultural groups, using proper terminology and vocabulary.

 

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER GRAPHICS (9TH GRADE COURSE)

This studio course is an introduction to Computer Graphics for 9th graders. Students will explore the elements and principles of design as it apply to Computer Graphics. They will acquire experience in computer graphics and the Photoshop program. They will learn to create their own original works of art. They will also learn to appreciate and understand  the works done by others using proper terminology and vocabulary.

 

DRAWING AND COMPOSITION

Classroom activities focus on drawing techniques with various media including pencil, charcoal, pen and ink and pastels. Composition, the arrangement of picture parts, is also studied through the principles of organization. The student requires four marking period assignments. Art Scope is a pre-requisite for this course and it fulfills the Visual and Performing Arts requirement.

 

ADVANCED DRAWING AND COMPOSITION 

This course is designed for the students that have successfully completed drawing and composition. Students will have an intensive exposure to the importance of drawing as the basic tool for rendering visual perception and communication. Students will have an intensive exposure to the concepts of drawing in a studio setting.

 

DRAWING AND PAINTING

Drawing and Painting is a full year course, which meets five days per week for 5 credits. Classroom activities are based on mastering various styles of drawing and painting. This course will introduce students to the basics of drawing and painting in a studio setting. Students will be exposed to some planning execution history criticism, aesthetics, vocational and exhibition processes of painting and drawing. There is no pre-requisite for this class. This course fulfills the Visual and Performing Arts requirement

 

PRINTMAKING GRAPHICS

Students will develop skills in various forms of studio printing and explore design elements. 2D Art is a prerequisite to this course. This course fulfills the Visual and Performing Arts requirement.

 

ADVANCED PRINTMAKING GRAPHICS 

Students will develop more advanced skills in various forms of studio printing and explore advanced design elements. Printmaking Graphics is a prerequisite for this course. This course fulfills the Visual and Performing Arts requirement.

 

PAINTING

Painting is open to all students who have successfully fulfilled 2D Art. This course is designed for students who are interested in studying visual arts as a vocation. Students will have an exposure to the concepts of painting in a studio setting. Students will be exposed to the planning execution, history, criticism, aesthetics, vocational and exhibition processes of painting. Students will become familiar with methods and materials of increasing difficulty. This course fulfills the Visual and Performing Arts requirement.

 

ADVANCED PAINTING

This course is designed for the students who are interested in studying painting as a vocation. Students will have an exposure to the concepts of painting in a studio setting. Students will acquire more knowledge of the planning, execution, history, criticism, aesthetics, vocational and exhibition processes of painting. Students will be involved with time, space, and material management as well as visual decision-making based on formal elements and principles of design. Painting is a pre-requisite to this course. This course fulfills the Visual and Performing Arts requirement.

 

CERAMICS 

Three-Dimensional Art involves both ceramics and sculpture. It is open to students with little or no experience in ceramics and sculpture. Students will use both clay and other materials to create functional and fine art projects. This course is designed for the general student as well as one who intends to major in art at the college level. This course fulfills the Visual and Performing Arts requirement.

 

ADVANCED CERAMICS

Three-Dimensional Art involves both ceramics and sculpture. It is open to students with experience in ceramics and sculpture. Students will use both clay and other materials to create functional and fine art projects. This course is designed for the student that have passed Ceramics, and who intends to major in art at the college level. This course fulfills the Visual and Performing Arts requirement.

 

COMPUTER GRAPHICS

Computer Graphics is a 5 credit full year course offering. Students will work in the MHS Computer Lab with Adobe Photoshop and other graphic programs. The class meets five days per week for 40 minutes each day and fulfills the Arts requirement.

 

ADVANCED COMPUTER GRAPHICS

This course is open to juniors and seniors who have successfully completed the computer graphic class. Students must be able to work in the MHS Computer Lab with Adobe Photoshop Program. Students will have an intensive exposure to the concepts of computer graphics in a studio/lab setting. Upon completion of the curriculum, students will obtain advanced knowledge and skills in various forms of graphic design with the Photoshop environment. 

 

DIGITAL ART PHOTOGRAPHY

In this course, students will begin an exploration of digital imaging with a digital camera. It introduces the use of the digital camera as an artistic tool. Students will develop an understanding of effective techniques and tools when utilizing a digital camera. With the rapid growth of digital camera accessibility, students have new opportunities to explore virtually any subject with the aid of these devices. This hands-on unit allows students to examine the camera selection process and explore the features and operation various digital cameras. This course will be focused on incorporating the principles and elements of art into digital photography. Five areas of instruction will be emphasized: How cameras work, how composition works, how lighting works, how to use photo editing software (photoshop) & Basic History of Photography.

 

ADVANCED DIGITAL ART PHOTOGRAPHY 

This course is open to students who have successfully completed the Digital Art Photography class. Students will continue their exploration of digital imaging with a digital camera. They will continue developing an advanced  understanding of effective techniques and tools when utilizing a digital camera.  This course will be focused on the incorporation of principles and elements of art into digital photography. Five areas of instruction will be emphasized: How cameras work, how composition works, how lighting works, how to use photo editing software (photoshop). 

 

 

Advanced Placement Studio Art

The AP Studio Art course is for students interested in a rigorous and focused study in art. Students will develop a quality portfolio that demonstrates a mastery of concept, composition and execution in Drawing/Painting or 2-D Design. This course is based on a student creating a body of work that demonstrates quality, concentration and breadth. This portfolio will be submitted to the College Board for college credit.
