Welcome back to SHS!
I am so excited to welcome back my students from last year and to meet everyone who is new to my class. I am looking forward to a great year! Things are going to be very different, but working together, we can be successful. Students and parents, feel free to contact me at any time at [email protected] with any questions you may have.
GOOGLE CLASSROOM
The number one change from prior years is the fact we will be conducting the majority of our day-to-day classroom business digitally through Google Classroom. Students may download the Google Classroom app to their phones or tablets and/or may access Google Classroom with a computer. We will learn how students can join each teacher's classroom and how to get started with the system on the first day of school. Students will be working in Google Classroom while on campus and will also be required to login to Google Classroom on the days they are not on campus. Students will be expected to complete daily instructional and assessment activities through Google Classroom for each class. Parents who submit a valid email address will receive email updates with summaries of their student’s work, which contain information about missing work, upcoming work, and class activity. Students will receive points in Google Classroom each time they submit assignments. PLEASE BE AWARE the "GRADE" shown in Google Classroom is NOT the grade the student will receive in the class. The grades in Google Classroom are not weighted in categories as they are in PowerSchool. For the official class grade, students and parents should continue to check PowerSchool as they have in the past.
I know Google Classroom will be a big change from the way school has operated in the past. We ask parents and students be patient as we are all learning this system together. It is VERY IMPORTANT for parents to provide the school with an updated, valid email so we can communicate with you easily in this new digital-centered learning environment.
REMIND
A second method of communication all of your student's teachers will be using this year is Remind. Many teachers have used this in the past so you may be familiar with the system. Please find remind codes for my classes and club below.
Remind Codes:
SUPPLIES
**It is very important for each student to bring his/her own supplies to school each day to reduce the risk of cross-contamination from other students.
Notebook/binder--Students will often be required to write information down on paper and then submit that work digitally back to me by taking a picture of the work.
Pens/pencils
Headphones--Students will need headphones with a normal headphone connector for use with the school computers. Many assignments will include a video students must watch in order to complete the lesson.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the parents and students who have taken the time to read this. I am very, very excited to get this school year started!
Grades disclaimer: Parents and students, please note that you should only use PowerSchool to see an accurate grade calculation, as we use weighted grades in high school. I may enter grades in Google Classroom to track performance and participation, but once transferred to PowerSchool, the category weights will take effect. PowerSchool is accurate, not Google Classroom!
