Grading Policy for Math 7
Assessments ----------------------- 90%
* Examples of assessments can be topic tests, quizzes, projects, etc.
* There is a midterm exam towards the end of the 2nd marking period
and a final exam towards the end of the 4th marking period.
+ Each exam will be worth 20%; which means the assessment amount
will be split into 70% for normal assessments & 20% for the exam,
so the 70% + 20% = 90% , still totaling the original assessments amount.
* ALL assessments are open notes (including midterm & final).
* ALL assessments must be completed within the time of the given period
(unless they have accomidations).
* ALL assessments & retakes are to be completed in school; none are take-home.
* RETAKES can be taken for any assessment except the midterm and final, but
there are requirements in order to earn the opportunity to retake something.
~~That information wil be at the very bottom of this section ~~
IMPORTANT INFORMATION about being ABSENT :
* Anyone who is absent on a test day will be given a temporary grade of 0% until it is completed.
* Anyone who is absent on a non-test day will have the work that they missed, along with
a copy of my answer key (showing the notes, the work, and the answers to help
the student with what they missed. All of that will be stapled together and put in
the period drawer in the 'absent work' tower in the classroom. If the student needs
additional help they will need to come during lunch or attend lunch help.
Practice --------------------------- 10%
* Examples of “practice” can be classwork, homework, study island, etc.
* The grade will usually will be the number of problems compeleted/correct,
with work being shown, out of the assigned amount. Study Island assignments
will be explained in the next tab/area.
* Pictures of the day's worksheets are always posted in the google classroom.
* Since practice grades are of what is going on at that moment or what is
expected to be done by the following day, those grades are locked.
That means that there is no credit for handing it in later since all answers
are given and all questions discussed when gone over the follwing day.
* If absent, the work is excused in the gradebook for that assignment because
they will already have an answer key supplying all the work and answers.
The answer keys are to be used to help learn and practice what was done...
...not just to be free answers.
RETAKES can be taken for any assessment (except midterm & final)
but there are requirements:
1st STEP = TEST CORRECTIONS are completed and handed in.
- Any problem where points were taken off, needs to be corrected.
- You must do your corrections on lined or computer paper; not on the original test.
- You must show ALL the work that is required to get the correct answer, not just write the answer.
- You must include the problem number for each problem on your corrections paper(s).
- You must hand in the original test along with your test corrections.
* If you lose the original test, you’ll have to show ALL the work for EVERY problem from the review.
2nd STEP = TEST CORRECTIONS will then be reviewed.
- If any of the problems are still wrong, either with work or answer, the problem(s) will be identified
and everything will be given back to continue correcting until everything is done correctly and
handed in again.
* Reviewing corrections can take time, so allow time for it.
3rd STEP = The RETAKE is available to do.
- The RETAKE is only available to be worked on during lunches (possibly during WIN periods); NO exceptions!
(unfortunately after school help is no longer offered, so it has limited what is possible)
- Once the RETAKE is completed, allow time for it to be graded, then it will be given back to the student and
the gradebook will be updated.
* Grading a retake can take time, so allow time for it.
