 Ms. Griffin’s

Fifth Grade

Classroom Procedures

1.  Entering the classroom - Each student should enter the classroom and go to their desk.  The students need to unpack their school bags and hang their book sacks on the back of their chair.

2.  Homework- The student will place their homework on their desk.  I will check the homework as they complete their morning bell work.

3.  Bell Ringer/Morning Jumpstart- The students will start on the morning jumpstart as soon as they put their homework on their desk.  This is a quiet time, so no one should talk during morning jumpstart.

4.  Getting the teacher’s attention- The student will raise his/her hand and wait to be called on by the teacher.

5.  Pencils- The students will have sharpen pencils in their basket.  If the student needs to trade a pencil with a broken point for a sharpen pencil, he/she should raise their hand and put up two fingers.

6.  Bathroom- I will escort the students to the restroom during the day.  If a child needs to go to the restroom during class time, he/she should raise their hand and give the bathroom signal.  The signal is one finger raised.  The student will only be allowed to go the restroom if it is an emergency.  If the problem continues, I will talk with you because this will take away from the student’s learning. If your child has a medical condition and must go to the restroom often, please send a note.

7.  Early finishers- If a student finishes an assignment early, he/she will be given an early finishers activity.  They are to quietly sit and complete this activity while the other students are working on their assignment.

8.  Make-up work- I will leave make up work on the student’s desk.  It is the student’s responsibility to complete any make up work.  I will give any test the student misses.  Remember an excuse must be brought in with the student to make up work.

9.  Teacher’s desk- The teacher’s desk is off limits.  Students should not remove anything from the teacher’s desk unless they have permission.

10.  Attention Grabber-  “Gimmie 5” is the attention grabber I will use with students.  Whenever I hold my hand in the air with the signal, all students are to stop whatever they are doing.
