Reading Program for 1st Grade Students

(Rewarding Our Awesome Readers)

Reading is a primary focus on Levi Milton Elementary; therefore, in order to encourage our students to read and be a part of our program, we are asking that you encourage your child to read at least twenty-five books during each grading period.  However, they may read as many as they want to read.

Participation in the program is voluntary, but those who chose to participate will be rewarded.  The procedure is simple.  We are sending you a reading log on which you will record the book title of each book you and/or your child read together and your signature verifying the book was read.  If you are reading a chapter book, each chapter is recorded as one book.  When your child completes his/her 25 books, he/she will return the sheet to his/her teacher.  The rewards will be as follows:

  • For every 25 books =  $2.00 kitty buck AND a free dress day (MUST BE REDEEMED ON WEDNESDAYS ONLY!!!!)
  • The top 4 children in each class that reads the most books at the end of the year will receive a special award!!!

Every time your child turns in a reading log with 25 books , they will receive their prize along with a new log to start working on.  There is NO LIMIT on how many reading logs you complete!!!!  Parents are key motivators and essential for the success of this special reading program.  Please encourage your child to read.  Together we can help your child to read more and to improve reading comprehension skills.
