Grades
Your child will receive a grade in ELA, Math, Social Living (Social Studies/Science), PE, and art/music.
*****Explanation of ELA Grade (English, Language, Arts)
The First Grade ELA Block is a combination of all Reading, English, and Spelling grades. Each subject is weighted differently.
Reading grades are worth 60% of total grade.
English grades are worth 30% of total grade.
Spelling is worth 10% of total grade.
Example: Student A makes 10/10 in Spelling, 8/10 in English, and 5/10 in Reading. The low grade in reading is going to cause the grade to below because Reading is weighted more than the other subjects.
Check the student handbook or please let me know if you have any more questions about the grading system.
Thank you,
Mrs. Petersen

Please look through all test papers and keep them at home for future reference. It would also be a great idea to correct missed problems with your child as a good study habit. Sign the signature sheet inside folder and send back to school the next day. If you would like to figure out your child’s grades, please see the following explanation or you may see them on Power School/Teacher on the parish website on the internet.
