Text:

Resources will be derived from various sheet music and alternating method books.

Description:

The class is designed as a performance-based instruction of wind and percussion instrumentation in an ensemble setting.

Goals:

  • To have a basic understanding of fundamental concepts and vocabulary in the realm of music.
  • To explore various musical selections in terms of composers, arrangers, publishers, music pedagogy, and compositional devices.
  • To advance individual performance and execution of technique.
  • To broaden a student’s ability for self expression.

Evaluation:

Students will be evaluated through a weighted scale in the following areas:

Semester Exam (15%); Major Assessments (40%) – Performances, Festivals, Concerts; Graded for Accuracy (35%) – Practices,

Select events, Playing Tests; Completion/Participation (10%) – Class Assignments

If a student is absent from an event (rehearsal and/or performance) and has failed to receive the points, the student has 3 days to submit a note from home signed by the parent listing the reason for the absence.  After 3 days the absence is considered unexcused, and the student will not be able to make up the points.
