I am in charge of the Football Cheerleaders at Mamou High School.  In order for any student to tryout they must have been in Pep-squad or another spirit group the year before (in effective as of the 2006 season).  Students must not have any suspensions on record for that year, and must have a GPA of 1.5.  The cost for football cheerleaders runs approximately $1000 due to cost of uniforms, shoes, poms, and camps the 1st year.  Following years is based on the camp that is selected.

The following is the contract that all cheerleaders who make the football squad must follow.

    MHS Football Cheerleading Contract

  1. No behavioral suspensions (fighting, disrespect of authority, cell phone) are allowed during the year.  This results in automatic dismissal from squad.
  2. Demerits:  1 missed practice = 1 demerit. (Must have a medical excuse to be excused)

1 missed game= 2 demerits.  (Must be a medical excuse to be excused)

Attitude, disciplinant problem, tardiness (unless excused) = 1 demerit

6 demerits = dismissal from squad.

  1. No belly-rings, earrings, rings, or long fingernails will be allowed during practices, pep rallies, and/or games.  This is for safety reasons.
  2. Attendance is required at all games, pep rallies, camps, practices, fund-raiser, and parades.  Homecoming is the squads’ most important event. If a cheerleader does not attend the events that surround Homecoming it will result it immediate removal from the squad and no sports letter will be given.
  3. All cheerleaders must respect the principal, teachers, sponsor, head girls, and other squad members at all times.  Must follow what the sponsor and heads tell you about things dealing with cheerleading (practices, stunts, cheers, games, ect.).  Head squad members will make cheer decisions and all other cheerleaders are required to follow these decisions.  There should be absolutely NO back-talk, complaining that one does not want to follow the directions given, or arguing with anyone.  We are a TEAM.
  4. Must wear cheerleading shoes and the correct attire (camp style clothing at practice, right color uniforms at game and pep rallies) that are chosen.  Cheerleaders will be required to wear the same socks and hairstyle (unless short hair, hair should not hinder cheerleading activities) that is choosen for game and pep rallies.
  5. Practices will included the following:  stretching, running, jumps, cheers and chants, stunts.  All cheerleaders will be required to perform these tasks at each practice.  Each cheerleader will be required to try new stunt positions that the sponsor and heads feel are appropriate for their skills.
  6. Cheerleaders must cheer to the crowd and try to promote crowd involvement. There should not be more then five regular minutes b/w cheers.  Use of spirit tactics (jumps) must be used regularly.
  7. Cell phones are not allowed to be turned on during practice/game.  (Use of phone is for emergency only)
  8. During halftime cheerleaders will eat a lite snack and must be back by the time the third quarter begins.  Eat before the game so that this will not be a problem.
  9. No drinking any alcohol beverages, using drugs, or smoking in uniform.  Any evidence of drinking alcohol or drug use before the game will result in automatic expulsion from squad and school.  No physical contact with anyone while in uniform.  Remember you represent the school and you should be watchful of your reputation.
  10. Cheerleaders are required to buy uniforms, camp wear, cheerleading shoes and socks, accessories, and pom-poms that may result in the price range of $1,000.00.
  11. If a cheerleader at any time believes she may be pregnant she must notify the sponsor at once.  This is for your safety precautions.

These rules were decided by the sponsor and must be followed.  Any problems with behavior may result in dismissal from the squad.  Remember you are on this squad to represent your school, to promote school spirit within the student body, to promote good sportsmanship, to support the athletic team, and to promote spirit within the community.  If any problems occur you can be dismissed from the squad.   ACT RESPONIBLY.
