This is applicable for both 6th grade science and 7th grade social studies. Please message me if you have any questions or concerns.
CLASS EXPECTATIONS
- The rules of this class are the 5 P's: Be Prompt, Be Polite, Be Positive, Be Productive, and Be Prepared.
- I will treat every student with respect- every student deserves to learn in a respectful, safe, comfortable environment. I expect the same respect in return. Students are expected to treat everyone in the classroom with respect at all times.
- Homework: Homework will typically be unfinished classwork. Students are told that the more they stay on task, the less they will have to do at home. In the event that students do not stay on task, students may receive a formal, graded homework assignment. These will be posted on Google Classroom.
CLASS NORMS
- Student Station: Students have a Student Station at the front of class. This station is equipped with a wall calendar for upcoming events, tissues, Germ-X, pencils, and pencil erasers.
- Classroom pencils are labelled. If a student needs to borrow a pencil, they must place their ID on the Student Station and can then use a pencil during class. Students replace the pencil at the end of class, then get their ID back.
- Celebration Calendar: students have access to a desk calendar where they can put upcoming events that they are excited about! (Birthdays, sports, extracurriculars, etc.) Students do a lot of exciting things outside of academics, and those things should be celebrated.
- "I Wish Ms. Hollier Knew": Students have access to paper and pencils to write feedback about this class, or anything else important I should know. Students are encouraged to talk to me about any concerns, but if they prefer, they may write it and put it in the concealed box. I check this box once a day.
- Ticket System: Students are individually awarded "tickets" if I catch them exceeding class and/or behavior expectations. Students may receive 1 ticket per day. Students put their names on the tickets then put them in their class box. Every Spirit Day, I pull 5 names out of each class bin. Those students can receive one of 4 prizes- a fidget prize, sticker, candy, or 2 bonus points. (Please note- students can only receive the bonus points prize once every 9 weeks.) The tickets reset after each spirit day.
- Class Letter System: Students work together as a class to exceed expectations to earn letters to spell out a word. 6th grade science sections compete against each other; 7th grade SS sections compete against each other. Classes can also lose letters if they are not following expectations after receiving a warning. The first class in science and social studies to earn all letters wins a prize chosen by the class.
HANDLE WITH CARE POLICY
- We all have days where we may not be at 100%, and that's okay. If your student had a rough night or is having a rough morning, please feel free to message me the following words on Remind: "Handle with care". I will treat your student with extra care that day- allowing more breaks, allowing them to see Mrs. Charles (behavioral interventionist) if needed, giving choice on group vs. individual assignments, etc. If additional resources are needed for your child, please let me know and I will do my best to help however I can.
