The following class policies are applicable for both 6th grade science and 7th grade social studies. Please message me with any questions or concerns.
LATE POLICY
- Students receive due dates for each assignment as it is given to them- for most assignments, it will be due the day it was given or day after if they needed to complete it for homework.
- If a student does not turn in the assignment on the due date, the student will begin to lose credit on the assignment. Students will lose 10% credit for each day late. For example:
- 1 day late: 90% of earned credit
- 2 days late: 80% of earned credit
- 5 days late: 50% of earned credit
- 10 or more days late: 0% credit
- The amount of days late is based off of school days. Weekends and holidays do not count towards amount of days late.
- Students with extended time policies may receive an extra day for assignments to be turned in before the late policy is enacted. Thus, students with extended time have a total of 11 days after the original due date before receiving a 0 on the assignment.
- Students receive a warning when the late policy is enacted on a missing assignment, at 5 days late, and at 10 days late. It is the responsibility of the student to let me know if they need assistance, lost the assignment, etc. so I may assist them as needed.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
- Please note that students are allowed to miss a maximum of 14 days of school (please see Student Handbook for more information.) If your student will be absent or is unexpectedly absent, especially for an extended period of time, please contact me so we can arrange best practices for getting your student back on track.
- Students will be allowed to make up any work they miss. Students have the amount of days missed to make up assignments once they receive the assignment. For example:
- Absent for 1 day = 1 day to make up work once they return to school.
- Absent for 2 days = 2 days to make up work once they return to school.
If a student does not turn in make up assignments by their revised due date, the late policy will be enacted. Please see "Late Policy" for more information.
- Students may receive alternate assignments if they missed a graded group assignment.
- If a student misses a quiz/test, they will be expected to take the quiz/test on the day they return.
- If a student misses multiple days in a row including a test day (NOT a quiz), they will be expected to take the test the day after they return. Students may take the test the day they return if they feel ready to do so.
- Make up work is either posted on Google Classroom or in the Late/Absent folder in my classroom. It is the student's responsibility to ask for assistance on what they have missed. I am happy to help students get back on track if they have been absent.
- Grades for absent work are in accordance with the Cecilia Junior High Absence Policy. Makeup work will be graded as follows:
- Excused absences: Students will receive full earned credit for the assignment.
- Unexcused absences: Students will receive 80% of earned credit for the assignment.
- Disciplinary absences (suspensions, etc.): Students will receive 70% of earned credit for the assignment.
- Please pay attention to your student's grades. If an assignment was graded as unexcused and an excuse was turned in, please notify me and I will correct your student's grade accordingly. I do my best to double check absences as I grade students' assignments.
