Welcome back to school! I am Coach Daniel Vanderberg. The 2025-2026 school year is my second year teaching at Neville. I am an alumnus of ULM with a degree in Business and a minor in History. I have also earned a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership degree from LSU. I am married with two children. My planning hour is the 5th hour this year. I enjoy spending time with family, watching my kids play sports on the weekends, and traveling.

As the freshmen football coach, and current varsity powerlifting head coach, I embrace the school’s motto of “Excellence In All Things”. Our job each year is to strive for excellence in crafting the best educational experience for all learners. However, it is possible that tweaks to classroom procedures and plans will be required. Because of this, patience for all stakeholders and from all stakeholders (teachers, students, and parents) will be paramount in this ongoing process. I am eager to begin the year and get to know your student.

In Class Rules and Procedures

1. Students must adhere to all school rules outlined in the Neville Student Handbook.

2. Be on time to class. There is no excuse for tardiness without documentation. The student will be marked tardy if he or she is not in a seat when the bell rings. No exceptions.

3. Have all required class material, especially your charged Chromebook and its charger.

4. In accordance with school policy, as students enter the classroom, they will be required to place their cell phones and any accessories (earbuds, smartwatches, etc.) in the cell phone pouches at the front of the classroom. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY. If a student is caught with a cell phone or any accessory after class has begun, the infraction will be recorded and reported accordingly.

5. No personal grooming (combing hair, applying makeup, etc.) in class.

6. Students will sit in assigned seats.

7. If a student wishes to comment or ask a question, he or she must raise his or her hand and wait to be called upon.

8. Respect is reciprocated. Be respectful to the teacher, classmates, oneself, and the institution of Neville High School.

9. ID badges must be worn at all times.

10. Stay in your seat until the bell rings. Bathroom privileges will be allowed for EMERGENCIES ONLY.

11. Students may bring a bottle of water into class, but all other snacks and drinks are strictly banned from the classroom.

12. The teacher does not loan writing utensils to students. In most instances, pencils and pens will not be necessary as almost all coursework will be based in Google Classroom.

13. During a teacher bathroom break, please wait outside of my classroom- locker side.

Google Classroom, Assignments, Grading, ect.

● Participation in Google Classroom is required. Class codes will be provided.

● All class resources will be available on Google Classroom. In almost all cases, everything students need will be in Google Classroom.

● Almost all assignments will be posted and graded on Google Classroom. Point values will be available to students on Google Classroom.

● Assignments will be accepted up to 5 days after the designated due date in Google Classroom. A student can earn a passing grade (the lowest D, see student handbook) if the late assignment is completed within 5 days. After 5 days, the assignment will not be accepted, and a permanent 0 will be entered into the grade book.

● If a student is caught cheating, he or she will earn a 0 on the assignment. The teacher will not allow the assignment to be made up. This includes, but is not limited to, using outside sources which are not provided in class. For example, Google searches or any AI generated information.

● Any extra credit will be offered only at the teacher’s discretion. Please do not ask for extra credit. The answer will be “No”. Daily bellringer exercises, while not technically extra credit (they will count against the student if not completed or done incorrectly), are easy assignments which are intended to supplement students’ grades.

● Assignments and tests will be graded in a timely manner. Official grades will be available to view through the Student Progress Center. Please check with the Guidance Department to learn how to access the Student Progress Center. The teacher does not call home regarding missed or failing assignments. Please feel free to contact the teacher via email concerning any questions about grading.
