I am Coach Vanderberg, and I am excited to embark on this Civics Journey. My "planning period" is 10:24-11:18 A.M.

In our 1st week (Week 0), we will present Neville's history and explain the rules and procedures. Each student will be given a syllabus. We will begin Unit 1: Foundations of the United States Government.
Week 1: Students will learn about the purpose, types of government, and social contract theories.
Week 2: We will explore the social contract theories of Locke and Hobbes, power sharing, bicameral/unicameral legislation, and the founders' concerns about direct democracy.
Week 3: Students will be introduced to the three branches of government and have their Topic 1 Test on Thursday.
Week 4: Topic 2- Our class will dive into the Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, and the English Bill of Rights in Topic 2.
Week 5: We will cover the Articles of Confederation, Shays’s Rebellion, Framing the U.S. Constitution, and the Constitutional Convention. Vocab test is next Tuesday- Topics 1 & 2.
Week 6: We will wrap up notes and framing of the Constitution, a vocab test Tuesday, and a Topic 2 test at the end of the week.
Week 7: Students will start Unit 2, Topic 1: The U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights
Week 8: Students will learn about the Preamble and the Constitution. Virtual Day is Friday, and the assignment is in Google Classroom. The end of 9 weeks is Friday.
Week 9: Fall Break: October 13-17th
Week 10: We will begin The Bill of Rights.
Week 11: Vocab Test on Wednesday, Unit 2 Topic 1 Test Thursday, and Friday game at West Monroe.
Week 12: We will start and finish the legislative branch.
Week 13: Students will transition to the executive branch.
Week 14: Start the judicial branch.
Week 15: Thanksgiving Break
Week 16: Finish the Judicial branch.
Week 17: We will move to Unit 3: The U.S. Gov't over Time. Friday PD Day- No School
S2W11: Monday: No School. Thursday: Study for the Civil Rights Quiz and Supreme Court Quiz #5 on Friday.
