Welcome!

 

I am Coach Vanderberg, and I am excited to embark on this Civics Journey. My "planning period" is 10:29-11:24 A.M. 

  

In our 1st week, Week 0, we will show Neville's history and explain the rules and procedures. Each student will be given a syllabus. Once the students receive their Chromebooks, we will begin Unit 1: Foundations of the United States Government. Reminder, Monday is freshmen only and Tuesday is all grades.

 

Week 1: Students will learn about the purpose and types of government. 

Week 2: We will explore the social contract by Locke and Hobbs, power sharing, bicameral/unicamel legislation, and the founders concern about direct democary. 

Week 3: Students will be introudced to the three branches of government and have their Topic 1 Test on Thursday.

Week 4: Our class will dive into the Magna Carta, Mayflower Compact, and The English Bill of Rights in Topic 2.

Week 5: We will cover The Articles of Confederation, Shays’s Rebellion, Framing the U.S. Constitution, and the Constitutional Convention. Vocab test is next Tuesday- Topic 1 & 2. 

Week 6: We will wrap up notes and framing of the constitution, a vocab test Tuesday, and a Topic 2 test end of week.

Week 7: Students will start Unit 2, Topic 1: The U.S. Constitution and The Bill of Rights 

Week 8: Students will learn about The Preamble and the Constitution. Virtual Day Friday and the assignment is in Google Classroom. End of 9 weeks is Friday. 

Week 9: Fall Break: October 13-17th
