Instruction in our classroom is based on the NJSLA as well as the HMH Into Literature Reading Program.  Some passages and activities will be modified based on the specific needs of the students while continuing to address the skills and content of the district's program.

Throughout the school year, students will work independently, collaborate with peers, contribute to discussions in small group and participate in one-on-one conferences with an adult. Passages will encompass a wide range of genres, lengths, styles, and forms to best facilitate well rounded life-long readers.

Students will work in workshops, small group settings, and one-on-one conferences to develop and strengthen their writing throughout the planning and development process of writing.  Graphic organizers, resources, rubrics, and samples will be provided to support students as they develop their writing skills.

Whenever possible, students will be able to incorporate their cross-curricular activities and learning into our ELA class.  Larger assignments from other subjects may be incorporated into our ELA lessons and assignments.

My goal for the students is for them to build stamina, comprehension, and critical thinking skills when reading and writing.
