Course Description: 

This course will involve a comprehensive study of World history. Students will be required to think critically, demonstrate comprehension, analyze and evaluate the importance of influential people, places, and events in World history, understand the significance and relevance of history and social issues to their lives, utilize map skills, research techniques, and public speaking skills, and discuss current events.

  • 9.1 21st-Century Life & Career Skills 

  • 9.3 Career Awareness, Exploration, and Preparation

Course Objectives:

This course is designed to meet the entire New Jersey Curriculum Content Standards for Social Studies.  It is also designed to have students problem-solve, analyze, and develop into citizens who will carry our nation successfully into the future.

  • The Birth of Civilization

  • Early Human Societies

  • Expanding Zones of Exchange and Interaction

  • The Age of Global Encounters

  • The Age of Revolutionary Change

 

Grading System and Assessment of Student Performance:

 

Marking Periods 1-4

 

Level 3 Tasks

Tests & Large-scale Projects

60% of each Marking Period

Level 2 Tasks

Quizzes & Small-scale Projects

30% of each Marking Period

Level 1 Tasks

Classwork & Homework

10% of each marking period

 

Expectations and Classroom Rules

It will be expected that all students will conduct themselves in an appropriate manner.

 

Students will: 

  • Be seated and ready to work when the bell rings.

  • Follow directions the first time they are given.

  • Show respect for yourself, teachers and staff, and school materials. (i.e., shut up and cursing)                 

  • Give your best effort at all times.

  • Cell phones are to be placed in the bin provided for you on the tables

  • AirPods and headphones must be kept in your bag or pocket.
