Course Description:How money smart are you? This course is designed for high school students to understand the importance of the financial world, including planning and managing money wisely. Areas of study taught through application in personal finance include sources of income, budgeting, banking, consumer credit, credit laws and rights, personal bankruptcy, insurance, spending, taxes, investment strategies, savings accounts, mutual funds and the stock market, buying a vehicle, and living independently.

Course Objectives:
Based on hands-on skills and knowledge applied in this course, students will develop financial goals, and create realistic and measurable objectives to be MONEY SMART! Through project-based learning activities and tasks, students will apply mathematical concepts in realistic scenarios and will actively engage by applying the mathematics necessary to make informed decisions related to personal finance. Financial Literacy places great emphasis on problem solving, reasoning, representing, connecting and communicating financial data.
Topics to be covered:
Students will learn information beginning with financial planning, budgeting, investing, and credit. These topics will be connected to other life skills as well.
Readings, Projects, Assignments and Lab Activities:
These will consist of current events. There may also be a project given at the teacher’s discretion to solidify main ideas in the student’s minds. Students will be directed in all of these activities before as well as during them.

Expectations and Classroom Rules:
It is expected that all students will conduct themselves in an appropriate manner.
Students will: Be seated and ready to work when the bell rings.
Follow directions the first time they are given.
Use appropriate language (shut up and cursing are not allowed)
Show respect for self, teachers and staff, school materials.
Give your best effort at all times.
