Welcome to Mr. McClaskey's 7th and 8th grade science classroom. Throughout the course of this year I hope to show my students how interesting and relevant science is to their every day lives. Whether teaching remotely or in the classroom, I plan on performing various "real-world" laboraotory activities and demonstrations to give students a first-hand look at the material they are learning.

This year, for 7th grade we will be exploring:

  • Phases of Matter
  • Measurements of Matter
  • Phase Changes in Matter
  • Atomic Structure
  • Physical and Chemical Properties/Changes
  • The History of Earth
  • Plate Tectonics
  • The Rock Cycle
  • The Weather Cycle
  • Hurricanes
  • Plants and Ecosystems
  • The Food Chain, Food Web, and Energy Pyramid
  • Predator/Prey and Mutually Beneficial Relationships

For 8th Grade we will explore:

  • The Law of the Conservation of Mass
  • Endothermic and Exothermic Reactions
  • The Transfer of Energy
  • Genetics, Heredity, and Natural Selection
  • Forces, Motion, Newton's Laws, Electricity and Magnetism
  • Human Impacts on the Environment
  • Environmental Science
  • Ocean Currents
  • Waves
  • Systems of the Body
