Meritorious Promotions – The SMI reserves the right to promote any cadet to a higher rank based on that cadets demonstrated positive attitude and effort at any time.
  • Credit will be added towards Cadet promotions based upon participation in extra-curricular activities and outstanding performance.
  • Drill Team, Raider Team, Shooting Team, Special Staff, Parades, Unit-Sponsored volunteer projects can provide extra credit for promotions. 
  • Do your best and exert 100% effort and good things will happen. 

 

 

 

-Promotion to Cadet Private First Class (PFC) – Be a Private for at least three months, No ‘F’ in any class, minimum ‘C’ in MCJROTC, no zeros on uniform inspections, and be recommended by SMI and MI. 
-Promotion to Cadet Lance Corporal (LCPL) – Be a PFC for at least three months, recite all 14 Marine Corps Leadership Traits (JJDIDTIEBUCKLE) and all three Marine Corps Core Values without assistance, form the unit for PT, and be recommended by SMI and MI. 
-Promotion to Cadet Corporal (CPL) – Be a LCpl for at least three months. Have a minimum ‘B’ in MCJROTC, recite all 11 Marine Corps Leadership Principles without assistance, form the unit for PT. Be recommended by SMI and MI.

 

-Promotion to Cadet Sergeant (SGT) – Be a Cpl at least three months. Must have positive recommendations from ALL teachers, form the unit for inspection. Be recommended by SMI and MI.

  

-Promotion to Cadet Staff Sergeant (SSgt) – Be a Sgt at least three months. Have a minimum ‘A’ in MCJROTC, conduct a 10-minute class on any MCJROTC subject, execute the promotion drill card as the unit leader. Be recommended by SMI and MI.
-Promotion to Cadet Gunnery Sergeant (GySgt) – Be a SSgt at least three months. Demonstrate the desire, maturity, discipline, and leadership capacity to hold a higher rank and/or billet. Be recommended by the Cadet BN CO, Cadet BN SgtMaj, SMI and MI. 
-Promotion to Cadet First Sergeant (1stSgt) – Be a GySgt at least three months. Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate the desire, maturity, discipline, and leadership capacity to perform duties of unit 1stSgt. Be recommended by the Cadet BN CO, Cadet BN SgtMaj, SMI and MI.

 

-Promotion to Cadet Sergeant Major (SgtMaj) – Be a 1stSgt at least three months. Demonstrate the desire, maturity, discipline, and leadership capacity to perform duties of BN SgtMaj. Be recommended by the SMI and MI.
-Promotion to Cadet Second Lieutenant (2ndLt) – Be at least a Sergeant for three months, have a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Demonstrate the desire, maturity, discipline, and leadership capacity to hold a higher rank and/or billet. Be recommended by SMI and MI.  
-Promotion to Cadet First Lieutenant (1stLt) – Be a 2ndLt at least three months. Demonstrate the desire, maturity, discipline, and leadership capacity to perform duties of a Cadet Platoon Commander. Be recommended by the Cadet BN CO, Cadet BN SgtMaj, SMI and MI.
-Promotion to Cadet Captain (Capt) – Be a 1stLt at least three months. Demonstrate the desire, maturity, discipline, and leadership capacity to perform duties of a Cadet Company Commander. Be recommended by the Cadet BN CO, Cadet BN SgtMaj, SMI and MI.
-Promotion to Cadet Major (Maj) – Be a Capt at least three months. Consistently display the highest Marine Corps and personal standards. Demonstrate the desire, maturity, discipline, and leadership capacity to perform duties of a Cadet BN Executive Officer (XO). Be recommended by the Cadet BN CO, Cadet BN SgtMaj, SMI and MI.
-Promotion to Cadet Lieutenant Colonel (LtCol) – Be a Maj at least three months. Demonstrate the desire, maturity, discipline, and leadership capacity to perform duties of a Cadet BN Commanding Officer (CO). Be recommended by the SMI and MI.
