Guitar at Lakeside Middle School
The Guitar elective at LMS is a performance-based class. Students enrolled will be learning how to play the guitar,
explore concepts of music history, theory, performance and experience music hands-on.
Guitar serves as an introduction to music with the emphasis on the guitar. Students will be learning the basics of acoustic guitar. This class is designed for students with little or no guitar experience. Students will learn fundamentals of music reading as well as basic chords, strums, and finger patterns. Students will also study and perform various styles of music including folk and popular songs.
Students in this course will be able to:
- Understand the relationships among music, the other arts, and disciplines outside of the arts.
- Understand music in relation to history and culture.
- Perform music from various genres and cultures alone or with others on the guitar.
- Rehearse and Refine music for performance.
- Compose and arrange music.
- Read and notate music in standard and iconic notation
- Understand music in relation to self and universal themes.
- Listen to, analyze, and describe music.
- Evaluate music and music performances.
Student Expectations:
Students will be held to all LMS non-negotiables.
1. Come prepared to class on time, with your binder, and pencil. Use only assigned Guitar each class day
2. Care for your class instrument. You are responsible for taking care of it during class. Student is responsible for any damages caused.
3. Students are expected to be engaged and responsive during class time. Students will be expected to perform and participate.
