Hi! My name is Ms. Tara Hymel. Originally from Livingston Parish, I graduated from Denham Springs High School and began my studies at Southeastern Louisiana University. I earned my Bachelor in Music Education degree, and I recently completed my Master of Music degree from Southeastern as well. While at Southeastern, I was named the Outstanding Graduating Senior in Music Education, as well as the winner of the 2016 Kappa Kappa Psi Concerto Competition.
I grew up learning and playing music. I began piano lessons at the age of four and continued until college, joined band in junior high, and continued band into high school and college. Aside from teaching band, I am the pianist and music director at Livingston United Methodist Church. I also teach private flute and piano lessons, as well as provide piano/flute/vocal music at weddings. Creating and maintaining a healthy lifestyle is also a passion of mine, and I help others reach their fitness and nutritional goals as a Coach with Beach Body on Demand. This is my fourth year at NCJH, and I'm looking forward to what the future holds for the band program!
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, gardening, reading, and making music for fun. My favorite colors are purple, teal, pink, and of course, North Corbin blue. I enjoy a good cup of coffee every morning (CC's is my favorite), as well as a little piece of chocolate everyday. I have a cat named Grace, a golden retriever named Belle, and a parrot named Nateryi.
