Applied Music Syllabus 

 

Welcome to the WHS Applied Muisc Course. This course will cover introductory methods to Piano, Bass and Percussion. WE will utilize thechnology to learn instruments, music theory, and general musicianship skills. The classroom rules are as follows. 

 

Class Rules:

-Arrive on time for class everyday 

-Be in your seat, with class materials ready by the tardy bell

-Have a pencil ready to mark music 

-Actively and willingly participate in during class

-No talking during instruction

-Do NOT leave your seat without permission 

 

Repeated failure to do any of these will result in points being taken off the class participation grade.

1. First Occurrence-Warning

2. Second Occurrence-Student must a two-page report on the importance of punctuality. 

3. Third occurrence-Mandatory Parent Confrence

4. Forth occurence-Saturday School

5. Fith occurrence-In School Suspension 

6. Sixth- Out of School Suspension 

 

Grading policy 

 

30% Written Forms of Evaluation- There are several forms of written evaluations that will be utilized throughout the school year. Procedures for the following will be explained in more detail during class. 

 

Weekly Quizes?Tests 

 

Weekly assesments will cover basic music terms, ideas and other concepts from the weekly lesson. Tests will be given each Friday. All tests are worth 100pts. 

 

-Written assignments- Students will submit written assignment through Google Classroom for the purpose of classroom reflections, self evaluations, and completing other written assignments. 

 

20% Training assignments 

 

50% Classroom participation- Students will be given a classroom participation grade of 10pts each day. On Friday's. Students will receive their weekly participation grade in addition to their weekly test grade. 

 

Music analysis- each student will be assessed on their abilities to identify key components to musical inserts such as key signatures, time signature, accidentals, musical notes, and basic note duration. Students will be expected to enter the school year with mastery. However, all of Mr. Sullivans students are projected to achieve mastery by the end of the year evaluation .
