Clayton Middle School
Course Syllabus
Course Objectives:
The overall goal of Pre-Algebra and Algebra is to help students develop sound mathematical habits throughout their work in this course. Students will acquire the mathematical skills, understandings, and attitudes to be successful on the NJSLA Assessment, as well as prepare for future mathematics courses. Students will be able to apply these math concepts to real-life and dig deeper into the importance of math in their everyday life.
Classroom Behaviors
The consequences for rule violations are
- Verbal warning
- Teacher/student conference
- Phone call or note home
- Office referral
I believe class discussion is a vital part of the learning process. I continually ask students questions and value all responses and questions. It is essential that students respect the opinions of their fellow classmates. There will be no tolerance for inappropriate comments towards other students in the classroom. Positive actions in class will be rewarded, such as frequently volunteering and/or answering a challenging question correct (these are only examples and the behaviors worth rewarding will vary).
Cell Phones
Cell phones are not allowed in class under any circumstances. The first time a student is found using a phone in school during the regular school day there will be a verbal warning. The second offense will result in disciplinary action.
Classroom Preparation
All students are expected to bring all materials every day, which means bringing the following:
Required
- Fully charged iPad
- Envisions Book
- Other supplies will be left in the classroom in baggies
Note: Aside from the consequences for not bringing in your fully charged iPad, unpreparedness will result in a warning (1st offense), phone call home/teacher detention (2nd offense) and write-up (3rd offense).
Classroom Procedures
Please enter the room quietly and on time. When the bell rings to start class, I expect everyone to be seated and ready to begin. Please come prepared for class. Bring your iPad and your envision book. If other materials will be needed, I will let you know in advance. Being prepared for class is essential to be successful. Points may be deducted from your grade if you fail to bring the above supplies.
Homework Policies
Homework is given not as a punishment, but as a valuable educational tool that is necessary to provide each student with individualized practice on classroom topics. Homework assignments will supplement classroom instruction and are vital to a student’s success on tests, quizzes, and projects. Homework will be posted on Google Classroom and MUST be submitted through google classroom.
Absences
When you are absent, work will always be posted on Google Classroom. All work must be completed in the number of days equal to the number of days absent (i.e. A student misses 2 days of class; therefore, he/she has 2 days to complete and turn in any missed work). Late assignments will result in point deduction, or a zero.
