Dear Parents and Guardians,
My name is Laura Dochney and I am pleased to announce that I will be a Special Education Pre-school Teacher for the 2017-18 school year. I am thrilled to be working with young students and plan to implement creative strategies and positive reinforcements to provide further support. I will be at Edison Elementary in the morning, and Stoy Elementary in the afternoons. I am very excited to be a part of the HT community!
I was born and raised here in Haddon Township, going to Strawbridge Elementary, RMS, and HTHS. Ever since I was little I knew I wanted to be a teacher. I attended West Chester University where I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and Elementary Education.
During my time at West Chester I student taught in a Learning Support classroom with students in grades 1-4 in multiple subjects, and in a third grade classroom. I also volunteered at a local after-school program. Whenever home on break for the summer or holidays I worked at Kingsway Learning Center, a private school for students with special needs. I have worked with students of varied age and disabilities as a One to One Aide, Teacher’s Assistant, and Teacher over the years. This gave me the opportunity to witness and practice implementing differentiated instruction, behavior plans, technology, and positive reinforcement. I also volunteer at a Special Olympics Young Athletes program on Saturday mornings. This past year I also worked as a Resource room Special Education Teacher at Elizabeth Haddon Elementary.
These experiences, coupled with my many hours of field and course work at WCU, have helped prepare me for this undertaking.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me at Ldochney@htsd.us. I am thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to get to know the students and help them grow and achieve!
