Grading Policy

 

  • Classwork (10%): Includes all assignments and activities completed during class

or assigned for homework. Any classwork that is not completed during class must

be finished for homework.

  • Daily Reading Assignments (5%): Students are expected to complete assigned

readings on a daily basis. These assignments are designed to reinforce concepts

covered in class and prepare students for upcoming lessons and discussions.

  • Laboratory Activities (20%): Each laboratory activity is graded on a 100-point

scale, with points distributed as follows:

    • Lab Report – 60 points (60%)
    • Participation – 15 points (15%) *Points will be deducted for failing to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety goggles and gloves*
    • Pre-Lab Questions – 10 points (10%)
    • Post-Lab Questions – 15 points (15%)

 

 

  • Quizzes (25%): Announced and unannounced quizzes will be given throughout each marking period. Quizzes will typically be given at the end of each lesson or topic.
  • Unit Tests (40%): Unit tests will be given at the end of each chapter or unit. Students will also take a Midterm Exam and a Final Exam.

 

 

 

 

Late Assignment Policy

 

  • If a student submits an assignment after the due date without having made arrangements with the teacher a minimum of 10 points, (based on an assignment grading scale of 100 points), will be deducted for each day that the assignment is late.

 

  • Mastering Chemistry Assignments late submissions receive a 3% penalty per day.

 

 

Make-up Policy 

  • If a student is absent,
    • The student must contact the teacher in order to make arrangements to make up any missed test/quiz.
    • Students must check Google Classroom to review the material covered on the day they were absent. 
    • Missing assignments must be completed the following day in order to receive full credit. Any work that is not made up will receive a grade of zero. 
  • Mastering chemistry assignments can be taken up to 2 times for a better score. Students must complete the assignment before they can try again for a better score. 

 

Extra Help

  • If students need extra help they can email me or request to meet with me after school. All students should feel comfortable asking questions whenever they feel they don't understand material that has been covered in class. Questions will be answered via email Monday through Friday from 4pm to 8pm. 
  • When needed, students should attend the after-school tutoring sessions.
