 Parts of Speech

We will focus on common and proper nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs.

The students will be able to form detailed sentence to form strong paragraphs and essays. 

 

 

Expository Writing

Students will understand and discuss the features of an expository essay and how it is organized. 

 

Students will incorportate the instructional vocabualry they are exposed to.

 

Sharing ideas is always encouraged!

            Figurative Language - Alliteration

 

Alliteration happens when words that start with the same sound (not just the sane letter) are used repeatedly in a phrase or sentnece.  The sound is usually a consonant and he words do not have to right next to each other.  

 

For example: 

1. I had to hurry home where grandma was waiting for  her waffles. 

 

2. Please put away your paints and practice the piano. 

 

 

Figurative Language - Onomatopoeia 

 

Onomatopeia is the process of creating a word that phonetically imitates, resemebles or suggests the sound that it describes. 

 

For example:

 "roar" , " tick tock", "chirp" , "zoom"
