Reading takes us to places we have never been before! 

 

 

We will forcus on reading to understand and make connections. 

Making connections to the characters, setting, problem and solution make the story come alive and creates meaning to what we read.

Our new reading/writing program, HMH into Reading, along with Scholastic News is used to expose the students to articles and short stories pertaining to world events, debates, vocabualry, close reading questions and writing of strong responses including details from text.  

 

Studens will become strong independent thinkers as they read independently, listen to read alouds and complete second reads of articles and stories. 

 

The students take part in the viewing of videos pertaining to the articles. 

The preview of vocabualry allows the students the opportunity to understand the text at a higher level.  

Responding to Close Reading Questions  gives us all the chance to reflect on our reading and be able to discuss the topic with ease.

 

The students complete activies on a featured skill

to reinforce the mastery of the skill.
