Distance Learning- Email to parents and students 3/15/20

Good morning,

I wanted to reach out to you regarding the transition of Biology to the upcoming distance learning experience. This will be a transition for myself and students, therefore it is very important that your student stays in contact with me throughout the week while completing their assignments to make sure that any questions can be answered and students are still developing content knowledge.

  1. Communication:

    1. Student Email: Students should use their student email provided by the school to communicate with me regarding questions about assignments, grades, due dates, etc.

      • They can log into their student email by going to the school website: https://hs.wdeptford.k12.nj.us/

District Policy Regarding Communicable Diseases; Frequently Asked Questions; High School Information And Forms; Links to Many Good Web Sites; Medical History and Examination Form
        hs.wdeptford.k12.nj.us
→ clicking on the section “Students” → clicking on “clicking on student email” then logging in using the same credentials they use to log into their computers.

Please encourage your students to check their email daily, this same email will also be sent to your student so they understand the expectations of the course for the time period that we will be completing distance learning.

    1. Remind: Students can also contact me via the Remind App. All students should already be a part of the app but if they did not sign up please see the code below. Parents are also welcome to join Remind. This is more like a text message type communication but phone numbers are not shared through the Remind app.

      •  Send a text to the number: 81010

      • Text this message: @64g33e

    2. Phone Calls: If you would like to schedule a time to talk on the phone please send an email to me and we can arrange a good time.

  1. Grades/ Due Dates: Students will be expected to complete about 40 minutes of work a day for Biology. Due dates will be CLEARLY communicated each day on the Google Classroom assignment. Therefore, due dates will be enforced. If for some reason students need more time this must be clearly communicated with the teacher prior to the due date/time. This could be through a parent email, student email or via Remind.

      • According to West Deptford High School Distance Learning Guidelines assignments will be due each day by midnight (I will specify if students get more than one day on any assignments that require multiple days or are multiple parts). Due dates/ times will be communicated each day on Google Classroom.

  1. Questions/ Concerns/ Suggestions: If you or your child has any questions/ concerns or have any suggestions on how to better assist you or your student please do not hesitate to reach out.

  2. Availability: I will be available from 9:30-1:30 each day. Therefore, that will be the best time to reach me each day.

I am hoping this transition can be seamless as students in our class are already using Google Classroom to view notes, complete and submit assignments. My colleagues and myself have been working to design the lessons with clear directions so that students can easily complete them, know what is expected of them and maintain a high level of achievement.

I appreciate your time and attention to this matter. Please communicate with me if you have any questions and I will gladly assist you.

Thank you and have a great day,

Mrs. Elliott
