The Choirs at BRMS

"Bel Canto" (Bel CAHN-toh) is a Treble Choir for 7th grade singers and rehearses during the school day.  This choir is a graded curriculum class where students sing in unision, 2 part and 3 part harmony. It includes all people who sing in the treble range.  There is no experience required to participate in this ensemble.  Join and learn to read music and sing together!

"Chorale" (Koh-RAL) is a Mixed Choir for all 8th grade singers and 7th grade boys who sing Baritone. This is a graded curriculum class that operates on a rotating schedule on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the school day.  This choir sings in both 3 part and 4 part harmony depending on the repertoire. It includes the upper and lower voice parts such as soprano, alto, tenor baritone and bass.  There is no experinece required to participate in this ensemble. Come ready to grow as a singer and be a part of the team!

"Dolce" (DOHL- chay) is an advanced Treble Choir that meets after school on Mondays.  Dolce is an auditioned choir comprised of only treble voices, including soprano and alto ranges.  The repertoire studied and performed has been carefully chosen to suit those looking to challenge their vocal techniques and choral experience.  Students participating in this advanced ensemble are required to participate in either Bel Canto or Chorale to set a foundation for their singing.  Students who commit to Dolce membership will be eligible to be considered for NJ All-State Honors Choir Auditions, held in January, and will also be given additional performance opportunities throughout the year.

"Sol" (SOL) is a Cambiata choir that meets after school on Thursdays. Sol is traditionally a male singing group that is open to all voice types where singers will learn to navigate the many stages of their changing voice. This includes singers in all ranges, high and low. It is geared toward individuals interested in singing various styles of music and having fun together! Choristers who commit to Sol membership will be eligible to be considered for NJ All-State Honor Choir Auditions in January.  Sol will be given extra performance opportunities throughout the year.

Class Schedule for 8th Grade "Chorale"

Chorale meets twice a week and operates on a rotating schedule.  Although students are attending rehearsals twice a week during the school day, they will only miss the same class less than once a month. Schedules will be made available by the end of September and posted on the website and on the bulletin board outside the Choir room (A-60). Choir classes will begin in the third week of school.

Our schedule has been carefully designed so that students are able to play in instrumental ensembles (band/orchestra) and sing in choir without a conflict. In the rare event that students cannot make a rehearsal (ex. They have a Test or Lab that cannot be made up another time), students must communicate with Mrs. Hingelberg via the Choir Absence Form by the end of that week to be excused.  Forms are also posted on the google classroom. Students will receive a marking period grade based on vocal progress, music literacy skills, and class participation.
