The Choirs at BRMS
"Bel Canto" (Bel CAHN-toh) is the 7th grade choir that rehearses in smaller choir classes during school days and then combines together to sing in two large ensembles for performances. All 7th graders will sing in either the Bel Canto Treble Choir or the Bel Canto Mixed Choir. This choir is a graded curriculum class where students sing in two and three part harmony. There is no experience required to participate in this ensemble. Students will learn to read music and sing together!
"Chorale" (Koh-RAL) is a Mixed Choir for all 8th grade singers. This is a graded curriculum class that sings in both 3 part and 4 part harmony depending on the repertoire. It includes the upper and lower voice parts such as soprano, alto, tenor and bass. There is no experience required to participate in this ensemble. Come ready to grow as a singer and be a part of the team!
"Dolce" (DOHL- chay) is an advanced treble ensemble that meets after school on Mondays and performs at the Winter Concert, Broadway Night, Spring Concert, and the Dorney Park Music Festival. This auditioned group of 7th and 8th grade students is comprised exclusively of singers with treble (Soprano and Alto) voices, and is designed for students seeking an more of a challenge. The repertoire selected for Dolce is carefully curated to challenge and inspire, helping students develop greater technique, musicality, and ensemble awareness. Participation in either Bel Canto or Chorale is a prerequisite, as it provides a strong foundation for the advanced work done in Dolce.
Students who commit to Dolce also have the opportunity to be considered for the NJMEA All-State Honor Choir auditions. In addition, Dolce members often benefit from extra choral workshops and special performance opportunities throughout the year.
"Sol" (SOL) is a Cambiata choir that meets after school on Mondays from September to December and will perform in the Winter Concert (December). No audition required! Sol is a group of male singers that provides opportunities of growth and artistic excellence while embracing the unchanged and changing voices. It is geared toward individuals interested in singing various styles of music and having fun together! Choristers who commit to Sol membership will be eligible to be considered for NJMEA All State Honor Choir Auditions in January. Sol typically participates in additional choral workshops and performance opportunities throughout the year.
