NJ STARS

The New Jersey State Legislature revised the New Jersey Student Tuition Assistance Rewards Scholarship (NJ STARS) and NJ STARS ll scholarship programs to ensure their long-term viability.

Students in the top 15 percent of their class will be academically eligible for the scholarship in the fall of 2011 semester, provided they achieve the required score on a college placement test to determine college readiness. Past practice has been that Lenape District students in the top 15% using a weighted rank are considered for this Tuition Assistance Scholarship.

Students must apply for all forms of State and Federal need-based grants and merit scholarships and submit any requested documentation to complete and verify application data within established State deadlines.  To review the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), go to:  http://www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Students and parent(s) must be permanent NJ residents pursuant to regulations established by HESAA (Higher Education Student Assistance Authority) at the time of high school graduation and upon county college enrollment.  Students must be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens and legal NJ residents for a minimum twelve consecutive months prior to graduation.  For details, go to http://www.hesaa.org/.

NJ STARS recipients who earn an associate degree from a county college with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher, have a family income (taxable and untaxed income) less than $250,000, and meet all other program eligibility requirements may be eligible to receive a NJ STARS II award to transfer to a NJ four-year college or university to earn a baccalaureate degree.
