NCAA Eligibility Center: Registration Process
Student-athletes must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center to be eligible to play NCAA Division I or II sports in college. Athletes playing in Division III do not have to register.
What is the NCAA Eligibility Center?
The NCAA Eligibility Center certifies the academic credentials of college-bound student-athletes who aspire to compete in intercollegiate sports at the Division I or II level. The Eligibility Center uses only approved core courses and considers a combination of core-course GPA and test scores to certify initial eligibility. Student-athletes who plan to compete at a Division III school may create a “Profile Page” and then later transition to a “Certification Account” if they decide to pursue a Division I or II path.
How can I find Palmyra’s list of NCAA-approved courses?
Go to www.eligibilitycenter.org and scroll down the page until you see the words "MAKE REGISTRATION EASY." Right beneath these words, you will be able to click on "Use this checklist." The checklist page describes the two kinds of NCAA accounts: a Certification Account and a Profile Page. Below the description of these two account types is a list of recommended items that facilitate the process of registering with the NCAA Eligibility Center. Under "Basic Student Education History," you can click on "Check if your school has a list of NCAA-approved courses." You can then use Palmlyra's 6-digit CEEB/ACT code (311070) to access our school's list of courses.
When and how do I register with the NCAA Eligibility Center?
The NCAA recommends that college-bound student-athletes complete the online registration process as early as the beginning of the sophomore year. At www.eligibilitycenter.org, student-athletes who hope to compete at Division I or II schools click on “Create an Account.” The NCAA estimates that creating a Certification Account should require between 30 to 45 minutes. Student-athletes who hope to compete at Division III schools or are not yet sure where they want to compete click on “Create a Profile Page.” Student-athletes who create a Profile Page will receive an NCAA ID and important reminders from the NCAA during the high school years.
How will my transcript be submitted to the NCAA Eligibility Center?
The Counseling Office will have access to the names of all students who have completed the registration process. Transcripts will be submitted at two different times for all students who appear on this list of registrants: in the summer immediately following grade 11 and then again in the summer immediately following graduation. The NCAA will use the initial transcript to make a preliminary assessment of your progress toward achieving eligibility. The final transcript will enable the NCAA to confirm your eligibility.
How do I submit my SAT or ACT scores to the NCAA Eligibility Center?
Test scores must be sent directly from the appropriate testing agency. Go towww.collegeboard.org or www.act.org and log in to your account to submit your request. The NCAA code is 9999.
What final steps are needed to ensure my eligibility?
As a senior, you will need to log in to your account and proceed to “TASKLIST.” To ensure your eligibility, you must complete all unfinished tasks, including requesting Amateurism Certificationafter April 1.
