Welcome to 1st Grade 2025!
Hello First Graders/Parents/Guardians/Families,
WELCOME TO FIRST GRADE!!!! I hope everyone is enjoying their last few weeks of summer break before we head back to school. I can not WAIT to meet all of you and have you here in our classroom and I am so excited for our year together starting August 29th!
Thanks for being so patient while our adminitrators worked hard to get our class assignments ready for this new year. Our families at Kossmann are the best! Let's work together to make this a great year for our class. If you are new to our school this year you will LOVE it! We have so many kind and helpful people at our school. If you were here last year you might remember me from the FIRST GRADE POD and you already know how great it is to be part of the Flocktown/Kossmann Wolf Pack. We are also SO lucky to welcome a student teacher in our class this year. Miss Jones will be joining us from Seton Hall!
I put together a list of supplies that you will need this year. Please see our supply list by clicking the link to the left.
There will be a Walk Through before school starts on Wednesday, August 28th at 2:20. We will be in the classroom and ready to meet all of you, please stop by!
We will be using our Google Classroom for some virutal assignments IN school this year. Our Google Classroom Code is reykqx4. Please JOIN our class with YOUR CHILD'S google log in.
ALL children will be given a Google Account through WTSCHOOLS so they can access this. The google account log in information is located on your child's ONCOURSE page. I suggest making this a label to attach to the computer for your child to refer to. All students will be given a Chromebook at the start of the school year and it will be kept here in the classroom.
Reach out when you need me, I'm here. Hope to see you at the walkthrough!
Sincerely,
Ms. Melissa Benbrook

Homework:
Every day when your child comes in from recess he or she will pack their home folder for the day. It will usually consist of these 3 things.
Reading:
For homework every night your child will be asked to read for 10 minutes. Your child may read aloud or silently. One thing that I ask is that the majority of the time is that your child is reading. Stop every once and a while and ask questions to make sure your child is following along. Just a quick question like "Who is that?" or "Why did he do that?" or "Where are they going?" We are building our reading fluency by reading out loud to an adult AND learning how to transition from learning to read to reading fluently this year.
For more information visit our Reading Link.
Math:
Homework will come home MOST nights. During the first week of school, I will send home a family letter for Unit #1 explaining the entire unit. A letter like this will come home before each unit during the year. Keep these letters!
PLEASE PRACTICE MATH FACTS. The best way to do this is with flashcards, math apps, or making your own timed minute fact tests to use at home.
Spelling:
Please see our spelling page more information and our spelling menu.
