B. Student Evaluation

The parish-wide grading scale will be used for all graded work including exams, quizzes, homework, lab, responsibility, participation, etc. Students in dual enrollment courses should refer to the “Student/Parent Handbook” for applicable grading scale.

Due to the use of the electronic gradebook in determining grades, participation will comprise a large part of your grade for each grading period.

The school’s cheating policy outlined under “Classroom Testing” in the Student/ Parent Handbook will be followed.

Any make-up work must be completed in accordance with the policy set forth in the KHS Student/Parent Handbook and the Pupil Progression Plan of the Vermilion Parish School Board. Until work is completed, student will have an X which will calculate as a Zero.  A student may receive an “I” or incomplete on their report card if the make-up date falls in the following nine-week grading period.

C. Lab Fees

A small mandatory lab fee is assessed each Agriscience student at Kaplan High to help develop a sense of responsibility to the program and to fund numerous lab activities such as welding, small engines, electricity, greenhouse, field trips,  etc.

Lab fees due: September 15, 2017

D. FFA Membership

FFA is a national organization of Agriscience / Agribusiness students.  FFA membership is part of the overall curriculum of agriculture education.  Many interesting opportunities are available to all FFA members. Membership is mandatory for Ag. I students and strongly suggested for students enrolled in  Ag. II, III or IBC (Industry Based Certification) courses to maintain their resumes, awards, and scholarship opportunities.

F. Curriculum

All high school Agriscience departments in Vermilion Parish follow a curriculum based on the needs of students and trends in agriculture today.

Points to note concerning the curriculum are as follows:

  • Wide variety of subject matter
  • Challenging areas
  • Hands-on experience involved ( labs and field trips)
  • Ag. II can be substituted for the third science toward high school graduation and/or TOPS and TOPS TECH requirements with Ag. I as a pre-requisite.
  • All our courses will help maintain your path for Jump Start, College, or Career Readiness.
  • Your SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) using AET.com will be approximately a third of your grade each 9 weeks.

G. Miscellaneous

A seating chart will be established within the first full week of the school year.  Students will be required to be seated in their assigned seats everyday.  The seating chart will be used to check roll on a daily basis.

Students are required to be in their assigned seats and prepared to begin class by the time the tardy bell rings. No exceptions.

Students will not be allowed to check out, call home, or ask to go to office unless there is deemed an emergency. Our students’ safety is our first priority. In order to maintain classroom security, students need to be account for at all times. Please help us by thoroughly explaining to your child their responsibility in this task. Our goal is to treat them as if they were on a job site and held accountable for all their actions. You do not go to work, you do not get paid; You do not come to class, you do not get the grade.

Sincerely yours,
