3rd Grade Music
Welcome to 3rd Grade Music! During our weekly 40 minute music class we do a lot of things in 3rd grade, including learning to play the recorder! 3rd grade students can also sign up to be in the chorus.
We Sing and Dance
Just like we did in Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade we will continue to learn new songs to sing. Some of these songs we will also play on our recorders. We will also do new Move It! activities and new folk dances.
We Read Music
We will continue using the Conversational Solfege program to learn to read music notation. We will add more complex rhythm and tonal patterns to build on what we learned in 2nd grade.
We Play Instruments
We will play our mallet instruments and drums as well as other percussion instruments (cymbals, triangle, temple blocks, etc.) to play along with the recorder songs that we are learning this year. We will also spend some time playing the keyboards to continue growing our piano playing skills.
And the most exciting part of 3rd grade music...
We Play Recorders!
Every 3rd grade student will get a recorder, music book, and access to the online music program. We usually begin recorders in October. Once the recorders are handed out each student needs to be responsible for taking care of their recorder and remembering to bring it to music class each week. Our recorder program is called Be a Recorder Star! Throughout the year students will get to earn stars to place on their recorder.
