OVERALL INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS
This course is designed to provide students with basic computer application skills. Students will develop keyboarding skills for personal and vocational use. Also, students will apply their keyboarding skills to produce simple business documents. Emphasis will be placed on basic computer concepts – using programs Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. The methods of instruction will include modeling, discussions, and mostly hands-on activities and assignments on the computer.

Participation/Completion will be based on the teacher’s assessment of each student’s participation in the class process.
Major Assessments, which includes Certification work will be the majority of student’s grade.
Assessed for Accuracy - Classwork/Projects will be checked periodically. Class work may be printed for a grade, graded as a screen check, or the student’s file folder may be checked from the teacher’s computer.
Midterm/Final Exam will be in conjunction with the certification tests.
EXPECTATIONS OF STUDENTS
As a high school student, mature and respectful behavior is expected.
Complete assigned classroom tasks and follow directions.
Come prepared to class every day (this includes being properly dressed).
Speak considerately and positively (use words “please” and “thank you”).
Respect school property; please pick up after yourself.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
Come in to class and immediately sign on to computer; immediately begin bell-ringer activity.
Remain seated until the tardy bell rings.
No food or drinks in the computer lab – this includes gum, water, etc.
No cell phones – no exceptions.
Think before you speak – working with a partner and/or group is encouraged.
Restroom Policy: VEST ONLY!
MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) CERTIFICATIONS
IBCA students will be assessed during the year by becoming MOS certified in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Official testing is offered at LOHS campus. These certification tests normally cost around $125 each, so this is a great opportunity for our LOH students. Industry-based certifications can be included as an accomplishment on résumés and college applications.
POWER SCHOOL/Google Classroom
Live Oak High School uses Power School for online grades. Grades will be inserted weekly. http://powerschool.lpsb.org/public/home.html
Daily and weekly assignments are accessed through Google Classroom. If student is absent, it is their responsibility to see missed assignments online.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
All business students are required to pay $10 business lab fee. This fee is for consumable supplies and certification testing. Please pay this fee online @ http://www.liveoakhigh.org – online payment.
All business students are eligible to join Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). Live Oak High School has a very active FBLA Chapter. We encourage our students to compete at the district and state levels. If you choose to join FBLA, it will be a $25.00 fee which state and national dues along with a t-shirt.
