ESL 1

 

 

Course Overview

 

This course is designed for students who have an intermediate level of  English language proficiency (WIDA 3.0 - 4.0). Students will continue to build upon their English skills in ESL 1. Students will read and interact with content based literature, poetry, articles, biographies and essays. Students will acquire reading comprehension skills, academic and content vocabulary, grammar and oral and written communications skills necessary to achieve academic and social success. Pearson Keystone B is the primary textbook fo this class.

 

 

Classroom Procedures

 

  • Homework:  Students will be assigned homework on most nights.  Homework will be posted in Oncourse.  Homework will be checked daily and students will receive two points for completing the assignment.  Students may earn half credit for late assignments.

 

  • Do now:  At the beginning of most classes, students will be given a “do now” activity.  These activities are designed to review previous class material and check understanding.

 

  • Participation: Students are responsible for coming to class ready to learn and with all needed materials for the day’s lesson.  Students are expected to participate fully in all the lesson activities.

 

  • Extra help:  I am committed to the success of my students. I am available during recitation and lunch for students who may require additional support.
