Creative writing
Overview
This course is an exploration creativity and various forms of writing. Some forms will be nonfiction pieces, poetry, short fiction, and drama. Each unit will explore the structure of a different literary genre and the devices used by great writers to achieve a particular effect in their work. While reading and discussing these published works, the student will be forming ideas about how best to shape his or her own stories. The student will produce a final draft of each of these genres.
By the end of the course you should be able to do the following:

Recognize and use the steps in the writing process

Write using a variety of literary devices

Consider the audience for whom your work is intended

Develop final drafts for monologues, one act plays, short stories, nonfiction essays, and poetry

Publish at least one piece of writing
- Develop an appreciation for clarity and precision in word choice
