OBJECTIVE:
This class is designed for intermediate-advanced ESL/ELL students continuing to study United States History. United States History I is a prerequisite to this course. In this class, students will learn about the history of the United States from post World War I to present day. They will be challenged to read and write in English in order to receive the full 5 credits of a standard social studies class. However, this class is designed to have students utilize their limited English skills effectively and learn in a familiar and comfortable environment.
Course Requirements: You are responsible for the following:
- You must come to class prepared, i.e., notebooks, paper, textbooks, journals, pens, pencils and folders.
- You must complete all homework, classwork and reading and writing assignments.
- You must see or e-mail me to receive any missed assignments, tests and/or projects (even if you are participating in a school activity, you are always responsible for any missed work).
- You must keep all papers, i.e., tests, quizzes, homework, and essays in a folder throughout the year.
GRADING SYSTEM: * A standard grading policy has been established by the Hillside School District.
Tests/Special Assignments = 50%
Quizzes = 25%
Homework/Classwork = 15%
Class Participation/Behavior = 10%
