COURSE DESCRIPTION:
English 2 is designed to support students as they acquire English language proficiency. In this class, students participate in project-based learning (PBLs), an instructional method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge. These PBLs will allow students to strengthen their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English, as well as their critical thinking, colloboration, and problem-solving skills. Each PBL will be supported by the reading of a master text. PBLs will last for approximately 3-4 weeks.
English 2 est conçu pour aider les étudiants à acquérir la maîtrise de l'anglais. PBL 1: Growth Mindset and The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens (September-November)
Students are reading, discussing, and researching topics on self development. They will engage in texts that explain the "growth mindset" (the belief that intelligence can grow) and will conduct research and write a paper on a notable person who has used a growth mindset to achieve success. Students will practice proper citation in MLA format as they write.
In groups, students will read chapters of the book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and will create a presentation to share their understanding of the chapter with the class. Students will keep a log of ways in which they have worked on developing a chosen habit in their own lives.
