Family Activity Time
Here are some extra fun activities to do with your child to continue learning at home!
- Shaving cream- Use shaving cream, spread it on a large surface such as a table. Practice making letters, writing words, and numbers in the cream. Added bonus- It also cleans your table
(don't use Menthol)
- Sand- Fill a large pan with sand. Use sticks to practice making letters/words in the sand.
- Gel Bag- Fill a plastic bag with a small glob of hair gel, seal the bag and spread the gel flat. Let the child use his finger tip to practice making letters/words in the bag.
- Rainbow Letters/Words- Choose a letter or a word and write or paint it in five different colors with markers or a paint box.
- Letter/Word Books- Staple some paper together. Find words beginning with each letter of the alphabet in magazines and cut them out and paste them in the book. Make one page for each letter of the alphabet/have the child draw a picture to represent each word.
- Magnetic letters- Get magnetic letters. Practice making words and naming the letters by sticking them on the refrigerator. Progress to sentence building.
- Alphabet Cereal- Name letters before you eat them, find every letter of the alphabet and glue them on a piece of paper. Advance to making words with the letters.
- Pipe Cleaners- Form pipe cleaners into the shapes of letters to build words.
- Yarn- Practice making the yarn into letter shapes and forming words & glue them on cards. Use them as practice cards. Sometimes feeling the letters helps the child remember the word.
- Sandpaper Letters- Cut the letters out of Sandpaper. Glue them on cards. Let the child feel the letters as he tries to name them. Use the letters to form words.
- Chalkboard- Get a small chalkboard and let the child write letters to form words.
- Dry-erase Board- Build sentences using sight words.
