 JROTC MILITARY BALL FLASHBACK

FLASHBACK JROTC Military Ball - 2016.pdf

The annual JROTC Military Ball is a memory-compiling congregation of JROTC cadets from a variety of schools. One thing that stood out to my companions and I was the POW/MIA table. This fallen comrade table consisted of a single red rose, a slice of lemon on the bread plate, an inverted glass, a tilted empty chair, and salt sprinkled on the bread plate. Each of these components held symbolism. The single red rose represents the shed blood as a result of sacrifice to ensure the freedom of the US. A slice of lemon symbolizes the bitter fate of the missing. An inverted glass represents the fact that the missing and fallen cannot partake. The empty chair shows that the missing and fallen aren't present. Salt is symbolic of the countless fallen tears of families as they wait. In addition the retiring of the LET fours did not leave a dry eye among us. The remainder of the evening was spent dancing to the outstanding music of our DeeJays and enjoying the photo booth. We were fortunate to have cadets from Central and Hillside High School Army JROTC units attend as well. Special thanks to the Parents and teachers to serve as chaperones. Overall, the military ball this year was an outstanding experience that has imprinted tons of convivial memories on myself and others. It is expressed with the utmost extended cordiality to invite both newcomers and those who are no longer in the program to participate at next year's ball.
